question...ive noticed lately that when I accelerate and then shift out of first and into either neutral or 2nd there is a "whine" that comes from the tranny area. its pretty subtle at first but once your ears catch it it becomes noticable. it starts high pitched and drops quickly. doesnt happen in any other gear shifts. very hard to describe, but im hoping someone else knows what im talking about....
Audible 1-3rd gear whine is pretty normal, especially with polyurethane shift linkage bushings. It only happens shifting out of first? Maybe a video would help.
Does it sound like a retro laser sound? Mine does the same thing. Especially after new shifter bushings, crossmember bushings and trans mount. Everything I've read states that it's normal. These cars are just noisy, man.
Haha ok! I do have the Cobb shifter bushings. No worries. I have no problem w the noise in particular I just wanted to know if it's normal. Before my wrx I had a jeep so I'm a seasoned vet when it comes to "normal" noises.
I'm still getting used to the normal noises. Especially the gearbox. That sucker is loud, man. Everyone that gets in my car sharts a brick and begins to tell me my car is falling apart. But you can't hear any of it outside the car.
Get some poly bushings and motor mounts... you will nvr hear the end of it from whomever gets in.
It's normal.
