02 to 05 tranny

Hi, i have an 02 wrx and my transmission went out, so i went and found an 05 wrx transmission. I just found out that 04 and 05's use different axles, does anyone know if this is true? Is there anything else different i should be aware of?

Thanks

i was told the axles were different and the connections to the shifter cables that connect to the tranny were different. i asked the same question you were asking and never really got a real answer so i just went and bought a 2003 tranny. i know 02/03 use the same style tranny.

Did the swap in one day in my 02. All you need is the 05 tranny and half shafts all else is the same, bolts right up with no problems.

i have the 02 automatic tranny, sigh, but i would also like to swap for a more reliable trans. As i have read a 05 tranny and half shafts, would that be the best way to go? I plan on doing the stage 2 tune and possibly in the future further internal work to the engine.

You're gonna need a MT ECU.

Don't switch an automatic car to a manual. It's not worth it. Sell the car. An ECU and half-shafts are far far FAR from the only things you're going to need.

i am going to leave it the A/t. The manual swap is too much work.
