Newbie forum

Didnt the newbie forum used to be newbie/general? Where am i supposed to post my threads that are related to both 2.5L and 2.0L engines now? A general forum is a good idea.

Yeah, but what we're finding is that people are just using it for a catch-all forum instead of choosing a more appropriate forum. They post there because that forum has the biggest stats (most posts/threads) so they think they'll get a reply faster. That forum is meant to be mainly for the Newbies. We want people to take the time to find a forum better suited for their topic instead of being lazy and posting in a catch-all forum.

Give me some examples of topics that would not fit good in one of the more specific forums and I'll give you some opinions as to where they should go. As for discussions that pertain to both 2.0L and 2.5L, choose the one for your application and just post the question there - meaning, if you have a 2.0L, post in the 2.0L forum.

Very good idea. That was kind of getting messy.

Ya im guilty of using to get my post read faster and get more responses but i also respond to the most post there also. I like giving answers as well as asking questions and its easier when all the questions that are general are in one place. I really thing the 2.0l and 2.5l are places where you should ask questions that pretain only to your engine. The vast majority of stuff though applys to both. A specific question about changing radiators or an upgraded IC belong in a place where both 2L and 2.5L people will view it and answer it. I d rarely browse the 2.5L section because i expect these question to be something i can not help with. Where as i use the 2.0L section when i think its something the 2.5L users wouldnt find helpful to them. I think really that it is better to have a general section seperate from newbie questions, but its not like its that big of a deal though. I just want to give some feedback.

Feedback appreciated. Let's run it this way for a while to see if we can't clean up the Newbie forum a little bit and get the information organized a little better. I've seen the Newbie/General forum used for discussons that would better fit in the 2.0L forum, 2.5L forum, and the Hangout. I would like to discourage people from using it except to ask newbie questions as much as possible. It can still act as a general forum, but we want people to use the other forums first.

One thing to keep in mind - some people who own a 2.5L won't know if what they're posting about applies to both the 2.0L or the 2.5L, so we'd like them to get used to posting in the forum which applies to them. If some of the stuff crosses over, that's fine. But having it split up in two separate areas automatically helps people decipher the info when they click into the forum. As where having a General forum will cause some to question whether the info applies to their application. Does that makes sense?

How about a "Motor Swap" or "hybrid" section.. That way guys like me who have STI Short blocks, or others with Cosworth, Axis, what ever block can post specific swapping questions...

I can add a sub-forum under the Cylinder Head/Shortblock forum - do you think that would be necessary, or do you thinkthe traffic in that forum is still light enough for now that all Hybrid discussions won't get buried?

I'm pretty careful about opening new forums. I want to make sure they'll be used and not just remain empty. If we have a lot of interest I'm all for opening a forum for it. That would be exactly the type of hardcore tech forum that fits this site's personality. I think we just need to bring in more members who will use it!

There is some decent talk about swaps but it's really only by a few of us.. I don't think it will be utilized fully at this point with our current members.. However, with a good Tech section on the subject more members might be less afraid to opt for this upgrade once they find out how easy it really is for the Torque and spool up it nets them..

In that case, maybe we need some good write-ups in the Tech Guide to have the info readily available?
