Is my engine Broken? Sticky

Hi All, hope all is well in scoobsville!!!!!

So Ive done some searching all over the site and others and have come to ask if the following is possible.

Can a sticky be made that gives the readers and scoob owners a def guide to
when ones engine is tickets (broken)

What I mean is, what to listen for, what to check, if you dont have a laptop, how to do like
a home test if your suspect your engine is on its way out, smoke and what it means,
even some pics or examples. when bearings are running bad, ect...

Why I say this is ive noticed, yes there are loads of reasons why a scoob smokes, but not many are always clear on what it could be. this way it can be a fast reference of the symptoms the person is having.

Some of us live far out, so sometimes I think a person dont want to drive their car cause more damage may occur.

Its only a suggestion, and I know there is a problem Diag Link, but if this could be setup as a pointers guid, I reckon it could help loads of troubled minds.

good idea?

smoking I would check oil to see if it is cloudy(water in the oil), compression test wet and dry. all a good way to find out what is wrong.

I suppose its a great idea, but i wont have the time to do something like that.

But if you have a specific question we would happy to answer it. My guess is yours is smoking? if there is smoke coming out you exhaust at idle there is a problem. like mentioned above check your oil for coolant, if there is coolant your oil then you need a new head gasket at the very least. which means out comes the motor, and the heads will need to be checked

ghetto fix is bars leak in the antifreeze/coolant and the oil...hope it seals after a few short drives....then flush the liquids with new. you don't want to be driving around with coolant in your oil. but at least that'd make it moveable if you have to drive some distance to get it fixed properly.

correct me if i'm wrong...but if the head gasket is leaking. you can get coolant in your cylinders, no? which is why it'd be in your oil...and that'd kill your compression. correct so far?

Not necesarily. My friend blew his head gasket on his bmw and it passed a compression test with flying colors.

If your head gasket is gone, you will have white smoke out of your exhuast. That indicates burning coolant.

If your coolant looks like a chocolatey vanilla milkshake then your have issues.
