You guys want to know something annoying?
Next time you're sitting in traffic, look out for this. It will drive you nuts knowing. Those LED 3rd brake lights react a fraction of a second faster than the other 2 regular brake lights. That's because regular bulbs take time to heat up, while LEDs are instantanious. So, if you sit there and watch someone either apply or release their brakes, the LEDs will turn on and go off a split second faster. If you just stare at one of them, it's kind of hard to tell, you kinda have to watch all of them at once to get the effect. It's barely noticable, but it's there.
Now consider this. In an emergency situation, it takes a fraction of a second for the best driver to react and hit the brakes. It takes another fraction of the second for the lights to kick in. Takes another fraction of a second for the driver behind that car (you) to react again and hit your brakes. Add all that up and you have the possility of a whole second of time that you lose in that emergency situation. I don't remember the numbers exactly, but 1 second is a lot of distance of braking (in feet) that you lose.
Sorry, we were learning about LEDs in my EE class. No real point to this whole thread, just something to think about
