I wave all the time. But most of the time it's other tuners - honda, DSM whatever - cause here in Des Moines there's only a hand full of WRX's and fewer STI's.
It's kinda like motorcycles - they wave all the time. Except for a crouch rocket to a Harley - seldom see that!!!
This thread really didn't apply to me until today. I was going grocery shopping for my wife today and there was a black WRX in front of me in the L.H. turning lane (I was going straight). Well, I honked and waved and the girl driving it looked at me like...
Oh well, some people just don't get it.

You live in Washington, PA? I go thru there all the time.
The best for me was over the weekend, this old couple waved to me.. FIRST! when I drove by their silver wagon. It rocked. I was like, see mom? Old people are cool too.

I always wave, about 90% waveback around my way. Since the day i got my car, i always got waves and didn't understand until i had to drive my mom's bmw one day and got waves from other bmws in that. THEN it started to click.
Do you see a lot of WRX's in the New Haven area? Over here in New London county I rarely see any!
Not to many that I know of, but I did just sign up with the Subaru Queens crew http://www.sqc-ny.com/ to check out some local meets. I did see a butt load of WRX/STI's yesturday I think it was the XXTunning crew heading to Englishtown NJ. for the EVO/STI shoot out

My turbo's fixed and a lot better =)
I just added another WRX to the list I've seen around here. So far its 2 blue, 1 silver, 1 real nice lookin white one, and one blue STi. But thats it. I like it better that way. I like having people crane their necks when they drive by to see what the hell a little car like this is doing with a hoodscoop.
What most of you all, who have not had a Subaru for a long time, do not understand, is that the "Subaru wave" used to be common place among ALL Subaru drivers. It wasn't until the WRX was released and it became a common sight that the "wave" became a dinosaur, and was no longer recognized as a common courtesy. It truly is a shame that this has come to pass, as it was always an awesome feeling to have all Subarus wave back at you, no matter what their make. It was predicted along time ago that the WRX would become the next Civic, and with comments like "I bet they didn't even know their WRX had a turbo, because they don't bring it past 3K" is the beginning of that landslide towards joining the ranks of "civic".
Whether or not you wave back at fellow Subaru owners is your choice, but just try and remember that.
An STi approaches me from the opposite direction today and it was almost habit to wave. I'm not sure if he/she even responded, I was in the middle of a conversation with my wife at the time.
Nice car though.

Blue
Well, I hope the dying courtesy is not true. I would wave to every Subaru in town.. but in this town, you can't travel 1 block without seeing atleast 1 or 2 Subarus. We live in a very hilly area that gets pounded with snow (not so much in the last few years). People, especially the elders around here know their Subaru will get them thru the winter (including my mom ). On top of that, most of the newer drivers get the old hand-me-down Subarus around here.
I wave to every WRX I see, even if it makes me mad that I know it's the same WRX that never waves. I can't see the WRX being the "new civic," only because the price range of the WRX is almost double of what a Civic is. I may only have just turned 21, but Subaru's have been in my family for about a decade now, and I still remember our first mid 80's silver wagon. That thing was rusting to hell, and you had to come to a complete stop to engage 4wd. I'm sure 10 years isn't much to some of you older fellas, but keep in mind, that's half my life!
I trust parking next to any Subaru over a Honda any day.

I was driving my date somewhere when I waved at another WRX, and she was like, who was that. I was like... huh? ooh, sorry, habit. I had to explain... I don't think she understood
