I do agee with Mosc. Odd hearing it from him, but you got the things to justify the PPGs, plus the insurance will stay on the cheaper side (generally speaking). Tought call Paul, good luck with it all again.

Well, I didn't have a 2.5L, front 4-pots, or an upgraded turbo/related mods in my car already to consider when I upgraded.

I followed that route a little while back.... THE best deal I was able to locate was 3950.00 for the gears and 350.00 for the synchros + having my mechanic install the gears at 600.00 = 4900.00 = not really cheaper. I have been giving this ALOT of thought. People that have a WRX can make it fast or even faster than an STi .... but when all is said and done.... It's still not an STi.... The better block, better suspension, the full 4 wheel diff, etc...etc... Even switching to a 6spd... would cost around 3000.00+ with all the parts and such. I will start from a better platform this time.... Not really start since I have a butt load of stuff that will transfer.

Don't get me wrong, my rex was great to me... best car I ever owned and I knew when I bought it (looking and researching for 4 years) it had a glass tranny. But not like that. I need piece of mind... Afterall, I did buy a Subie.

Mosc, did the site get a 4sale / classified section/thread on here or is it the same LAME way from the past ?

BTW... the STi I am looking at has 40K on the clock but get this, it still has 25-30% on the original pads still. The man that sold it was a 42 year old and I knew him... so.....

07STi, 25K asking... but I have them down to 22.5K.... Get this, they WANT me to keep the STi TMIC, KB shifter and all the bushings, as well as my Tenzo's and BFG KDW's on there for resale...

They are looking into seeing if they can sell it w/the F&R sways and endlinks as well...

Never ceases to amaze me.

Yes, same old crappy way of classifieds. I suggest using nasioc

Anyway, factor into your upgrade costs the fact that you need to buy a transmission for your WRX regardless. I mean, you can sell it to the dealer broken if you want but they're just going to take off the price of the repair in what they offer you. You're buying a transmission regardless, might as well get a good one and then the STi starts to look less appealing. That's where I'm coming from. Course, we're all emotional about cars (myself included) and it seems you've made up your mind so good luck! I'm sure you'll enjoy the STi.

The STi does have a lot of stuff like adjustable headlights, DCCD, the cooler dash, the better heads, the slightly stronger bottom, the BBS wheels, the brembos, etc. You are getting a lot for your money I agree.

I'm curious... Aren't you going to have to fix the trans to trade the car in? What are they giving you for it on trade? I'm sure it's 4-5k less than if it had a working trans.

Why not a used trans.? It might hold out for another 31k.

Also, why is the trans. so fragile? I thought sometime in 04 they made the trans. stronger.

Stronger is a relative term. It is better than the 02/03 gearboxes but it isn't A LOT stronger. Also in the 06/07 WRX they changed the final drive and put more stress on the gearbox.

My name is Ken and I am a HP Junkie.

The 02/03 (half of 03) tranny is the weakest but it's the lower torque EJ205 motor. The 03 (half of 03) to 05 tranny is A LITTLE more stout. The 06 is the same tranny with shorter tires and more torque from the EJ255 (especially stage2 and beyond). The 07 ratio was changed slightly along with the shorter tires from the previous year. I think we have some other thread with the exact gear ratios along with the tire sizes factored in.

Anyway, none of the setups are particularly strong. Nothing like the 6-speed or a PPG setup.

I "think" I'm going to have to pay for the gear ($150) and I think that's it.... Maybe a clutch and set of synchros, but I doubt it. I called the dealer yesterday and asked him what model my car was... He was like ...... It's a WRX Impreza. I said yeah, but what is the model.... Again... ...... I told him a TR..... He said "WHAT", I have never heard of that term.... what does that mean. I told him and advised him to take that to the regional SOA guy when he shows up .... I expect to pay nothing ESPECIALLY the way I treated my car. Begininng to think it may have been the extra traction the tires I have on there contributing to this (could be way off).

I refuse to keep letting this happen..... I just had no idea. I went on google for shitz and giggles the other day and looked for a wrx tranny and there were like 18 in texas alone..... Go figure.

Look up either DS1 motorsports or contact Matt at 555 Motorsports. I mentioned in another thread about their in shop gears that keep stock ratio and are tested to 450 ft/lbs torque at the wheels. That is exactly what I will be getting towards the beginning of the year. Its about $2k less than PPGs.
