STI vs Mustang

Pulled up next to a 87 mustang this afternoon and he acted like he wanted a little, having layed the smack down on a number of mustangs I returned the gesture. I took the jump on him by the time I hit 3rd gear he went cruising by me, we probably went for close to a 1/2 mile before we had to slow. I followed him into the gas station, turns out he had a twin turbo 5.0 he claims he runs 12.20's on street tires which I can believe the way he pulled away. (Point being we all have to watch out for those sleepers, because there out there!)

I actually favor that one, but have yet to actually try it. What do you think? Some folks gripe about high end lag with the Perrin and other intakes. Have you had any problems with yours? How long have you had it? What is the part number for that intake? Where did you purchase it?

I'll have to get back to you on the part # I ordered my whole set up from xcelleration.com rather than mod it piece by piece I went with a package and paid a litle more to do so. all the filters like these normally come pre oiled you just need to make sure that you don't put too much oil on them after cleaning, K&N oil is pretty thick. I have had it for about 2 months and am happy with it. If I am correct you posted the thread fact or fiction about xcelleration's claim of whp on one of their packages, I bought the same package minus the oversized intercooler, anyways you got me thinking and I had it put on a dyno pack the kit claimed 430 crank hp and 340 whp, my car turned 329 whp so actually they are pretty accurate on their #'s the only downfall is you have to send back the piggyback system if you further upgrade to have it re-mapped, but Iam pretty happy with my performance for now at least.

I think the 5.0 mustangs are or will emerge as the most modded car in history.

I have seen N20 to twin turbo and everything inbetween, all on the street.

was that stang a parallel or serial twin turbo?

Pretty much if you see a 5.0 80s body style mustang and it is not completly rusted and crapped out, it probably runs 12s - 13s at the track on the weekend... at least that is my experience around here

These cars are cheap to buy and cheap to mod... however, all you have to do is wait till the street is wet, and watch him spin his tires in your rear view mirror

Chuck,

I'm glad to hear that you are pleased with the kit. I really had my doubts about it, but apparently their claims hold fairly true. Don't worry about the part number, I can get it off their site.
