Spoiled kids.

I was at work today when I noticed a kid pull up in a Dodge SRT10 truck. He appeared to be 16 or 17 years old For those that don't know, this is the fastest production truck ever made. It's powered by the same motor in the SRT10 Dodge Viper, a 500hp V-10. Anyways, he came inside our store and talked to the people who share office space with us. Apparently they were doing some work for his mom and he was meeting her there. We share office space with an interior decorator and apparently the mother was re-decorating her son and daughters bedrooms. Anyways, after the kid and his mother left, I joked around with the interior decorator. I told her that I was going to start saving my pennies so that I can buy my son a Lamborghini Murcielago when he turns 16. She lauged and she told me that the kid with the Dodge SRT-10 truck already wrapped the truck around a pole once and his parents paid to have it repaired. Apparently the kid doesn't work and gets everything he wants from his parents. The mother was spending $19,000 to decorate her kids rooms btw :P

Anyways, back to getting on track with my thoughts. I'm a parent (I have a 1 1/2 old boy) and I can't imagine turning the keys of a 500HP vehicle over to a 16 year old as their first car. Not only is it an irresponsible thing to do because it's too much car for a child to handle, but it also fails to teach a child the value of earning something in life. And you'd think that after the first time the kid wraps the truck around a pole that would be a wake up call for all involved and that they would ditch the high performance truck at that point. Anyways, i'm done ranting. Just wanted to share.

Wow I wish my parents bought me a truck like that! But I have to work for my own car. And you have to realize what are the kids going to do when they get older then they can't get no more cars/products that they want anymore there finally going to have to join the real life. And not depend on others.

There is a kid in my home town that is 19 and has one. I agree it is the most retarded thing ever. Which reminds me....

Last Sat night I was up town talking to one of my friends when this kid in a 3 Series BMW pulls up. He makes the comment that he will race me when he gets out of Basic. I asked what he was wanting to race me in(humoring him) and he said that his dad was going to buy him a Porsche Carrera GTS. First off it isnt a GTSit is a GT, though I didnt tell him that. Secondly I doubt "daddy" would be forking out over 400G's for a car for his inmature son who's current car has been taken such good care off(I have seen people literally drive this car off the curb just to see the pretty sparks). Anyways, just thought that I would vent about my own experience with a similar situation.

Why can't that be my parents lol? That is a very powerful truck to give to a 16 year old. I am 19 and I had to work and save up to buy my 03 wrx. This is like my one friend his parents bought him a 1994 Rx7 when he was 16. It's just rediculous.

When purchasing my car, my mom asked the salesman "If you had a 16-17 year old son, would you let him drive this car?" the salesman came back with "Do you trust your son?"

parents with too much money can find A LOT worse things to spend their money on than a car IMHO. Let them spend whatever the hell they want on a car. Better that than something else. Personally, I just want to tax the hell out of these ppl

A friend of mine who works at the local Subaru dealership told me that yesterday a 20 year old boy came in and paid cash for an STi before they got it off the truck !

I'm not saying that a 20 year old couldn't have worked and saved his own money, but I'll bet that isn't the case. The same parents that fork out that kind of money on a spoiled brat are the same parents that are standing over his casket wondering how that could have happened ! It's a crazy world out there !

cash? jesus f'ing christ!!

im glad someone finally agrees with my point of view. its ridiculous the shit some of these kids get. now granted my parents bought my eclipse, but that was a $1500 beater that was (supposedly) ranked at less than 100 hp from the factory. but a 500 hp beast like that? he should have died. there's a family that lives not far from me, the dad's in construction and is worth millions, and the kid is a spoiled brat. daddy bought him a vette, which he totalled, so dady bought him another one, which he also destroyed. this time daddy bought him a viper, which he blew the motor on two years later because the stupid f'k used nitrous while shifting, so now he has viper #2, as well as an escalade. spoiled bastard.

500hp for a 16-17 year-old? Wonder what kind of life insurance policy she's carrying on him?

A family that my mom knows bought their daughter a Corvette for high school graduation a few years ago. She didn't live to see the end of summer.

If you buy a youngster a car/truck like that, a parent should at least have the decency to make him/her take professional driving lessons at a track. Not to learn how to go fast, just to learn car control.

It's very doable. I'm 21 in August and I'm about to go buy myself an STI and the plan is to plunk down about half the cost as a down payment. My parents help me out where they can, but I'd be hard pressed to say I'm spoiled. I have been working since I was 15 and pay for everything that I can. My parents help me out where they can, but doesn't everyone's parents do that in someway or another?

I do know a kid who's mom bought him a Celica when he was 15 and let him spend all sorts of money on it. It was a nice show car and won lots of trophies and stuff, but then he wrecked it into a guardrail and like destroyed his face. So his mom bought him a 350z which he spent a ton of money on, then banged it up, got it fixed and bought a Lotus Exige.

I dunno about you, but if my kid wrecks his car driving like a jackass, he's getting a used school bus, not something faster... that is... unless I wanted to "finish the job."

He didn't wreck the 350z, just broke the front body kit. His grandmother died and left the family a ton of money. With his share, he bought a Lotus.

partially. at the same time, a celica doesn't cost nearly as much as an srt-10 truck, and going by what you said all the money put into it was his anyway so that kid isn't as spoiled or wasn't until he had the z key's plopped into his lap.
