So i got an sti 6 speed :P

yep i picked up a 6 speed from a V7 sti. they person i bought it from says it should bolt right up to my 01 wrx (with auto tail shaft).
i was going go with a straight cut gearset, but this was over $2k cheaper, and i get an extra gear :P.
so im pretty happy, just have to put it in now.

you need to change the diff if it were a different ratio, but luckily the gearbox i got matches my diff. its from the same year modle but sti. im not sure how the newer models are, but yea all i have to do is get a shorter tail shaft and some auto stubs.

Just grab up an automatic rear drive/tail shaft also. If I recall they are shorter also and should work.

Let us know how the install goes, and how different (from your point of view) it is going from the 5spd to the 6spd. And good luck with it all.

Keep in mind he's talking about a v7 STi 6-speed (never a USDM model) which is different than the 6-speed we use. It's from the 94-01 body style Impreza, not the ones that we got with turbos in the US. It's connections are more similar to a USDM 5-speed.

Crazy, didn't even know that was an option, although it doesn't sound like a US option.

i didnt think there was much difference between them all. Its from an 01 bug eye, so the same model as my wrx but sti. I was actually pretty lucky to have found it.

So its now sitting in my garage with my car, waiting to be swapped over .
im going to take apart my 5 speed to see how much damage i did. It wont go into any gear, like its jammed.

wow the size difference between these gearboxes is nuts. I wasnt expecting the sti box to be that much bigger but it is, its huge! aha.
So the 5 speed is out, just waiting on a tail shaft for the 6 speed.
had to take the exhaust off because it was a nuisance. All is good so far
