Shrinking oil filter

I went to the dealer today and got an oil filter. It looked small. I asked about it and they told me "all imprezas are going to the smaller filter because of the larger one was comming too close to the exhost. WHAT? My filter isn't anywhere near that. Was he talking about the '08 WRX? I have an '03. Are you guys getting this little filter too? Will there be any problems with this?

hmm i just ordered the 6 pack from subarugenuineparts. Hope they fit, and yes my oil filter is not near the exhaust. Kinda near the crossover pipe though but I don't think enough to touch, speaking of which I really need to do an oil change.

Those things are tiny. The first time I bought one, I thought it was a joke. HAHA.

Yup.They started with the smaller ones a couple years or so ago.I use Purolator Pure 1.They use the older style big filter. Some aftermarket/oem use the smaller design.

OK then. I'll use it. But I'm in the market for an aftermarket filter next time. I need one that will go 7,000 mi. I use Redline or R.P. What's a good one for that?
