Ok, it looks pretty official to me now... I don't know if everyone has heard about this, and it may be old news by now, but X-Games 12 (X12) is going to have Rally racing as the first auto motorsport event ever in the X-Games.
Now... do you guys think this is a good thing, or bad? Some people feel the X-Games brought out a bunch of wannabe skater kids, and made all the good skaters mad that a bunch of poseurs were creeping in on their idea of a good time. On the other hand, it brought stuff like skateboarding, BMX, snowboarding, and other "extreme" sports to the light of the public, exposing more and more people to things they never would have known of if they hadn't seen it on TV.
Any thoughs? I think this is a good thing. I'd love to turn on the TV and see WRC or SCCA ProRally footage rather than a NASCAR race... Usually you have to subscribe to the Speed Channel to see any good stuff (MotoGP, F1, WRC, LeMans, etc.) If this can bring rally closer to mainstream, maybe it will become more respected and the NASCAR freaks will see what challenges real racers face
I love seeing xtreme sports on TV, and I cant beleve Rally racing has become classified into that category.
I will be there all day Saturday Aug 5. You cant beat watching rally racing all day for only $5.
i officially hate u nd the x games coordinators...u for living in LA and being able to see the rally race ...the the x games ppl for not having rally in the X games when they were in Philly for 2 yrs straight
another benefit of living in CA... :'( the only important things that happen near DC are politics, the occasional sniper... and horrendous traffic. Oh and an extremely high cost of living (although not too far off from CA )
There is always "any press is good press" meaning the more press the more likely we will get WRC coverage back in the states, but then the younger more reckless crowd may want to get into rally, and the sport may go to shit.

Yeah.. I definitely see where you're coming from. At once it may have been cool to skateboard... but now it's shoved in your face everywhere you go, and I can't think of anyone I know who hasn't tried it and/or owned a decent deck.
I hope that peole see rally for what it is, and not "the next hot thing..." It's been around for decades, and has a rich and complete history. This isn't a sport that just popped up out of nowhere. People have been dragging their cars through the dirt as long as others have been at the dragstrip...
