Test rig that I built and just finished up the final tests. It uses timer relays to charge up two banks of 9900uF capacitors and dumps all the power into a single power resistor. We were doing stress testing, looking for failure rates of different branded resistors.
Here are a few of the failed resistors cut open. You can see it's just nichrome wrapped around a tube, sealed in sand, and shoved into a big heat sink.
Right now I'm doing heat tests/airflow tests on a prototype power converter. If I remember I'll snap a couple photos. Now that I've bored you, you can get ready for bed!
