They said it was due to safety concerns? It's on obstacle course race, the hazards are everywhere...Hell the weekend before I did Tough Mudder(tm) a guy died and they didn't cancel it...grrrrr....

Well with the disappointment of the Hero Rush being cancelled I still had the kicks for kids 5k...My time was 22:43, less than stellar, and it was pouring down the rain. Oh well next stop Run for a Million virtual race and 100 miles worth of running to do then get ready for the Marine Corp Challenge...woohoo.

So I currently am suffering from a stress fracture in my left shin, it has kind of put most of my training on hold... I am now going to work on basic upperbody stuff until it heals. I have decided to cancel the rest of my events this year to get back in to full training and I am in the process of getting ready to do a fitness journey, where I will train with different elite level trainers and write about it and how it prepares my mindset for the only big event I have planned, GoRuck Selection. 48hrs. of simulated Special Operations training....gonna suck the life out of me, but I think it will help me really find out who I am in the end.

So I found a new fitness test I am going to try. It is called the upper body round robin. It goes as follows;

1 Minute of Pushups 40
1 Minute of Situps 40
Pullups 6 - Not Timed
Dips 6 - Not Timed
Bench Press 80% Body Weight 6 - Not Timed
20 ft. Rope Climb in Body Armor or Weight Vest - 25#
1 Minute Kip-ups 6
4 x 25 M Shuttle Run Max 24 Secs
5 Mile Run 40mins or less

This is the new standard for SF and SO teams. Seems legit so I will give it a go...The 5 mile run in under 40mins will be tough as I am not a really good runner, but if I can maintain a 7:50 min/mile time I should be okay. The dips should be interesting as my PR is 54...hmmmmm

Did the tough mudder back in May here in Ohio...sucked and then sucked some more, but if you do any kind of training at all, you'll do fine. Best advice I can give is to drink as much water as you can at the water stations. don't go pee in the toilets just let it run down your leg. You need to stay hydrated. Yes I did this, plus ate an earthworm...I was very hungry.

I actually train some local military personal, some headed to boot others getting ready for PFT and one actually prepped for Sapper training. So in order to train people like I have to be able to basically do the training they do...not easy at 42...lol

Has anyone tried this barbell complex. I did it the other night and my friggin body aches still...

Barbell Upright Row x 6
Barbell High Pull Snatch x 6
Barbell Behind the Head Squat Push Press x 6
Barbell Behind the Head Good Morning x 6
Barbell Bent Over Row x 6
Rest 1 min. repeat 5 times
I used 95lbs. for this and to be honest the last set was hard to finish...

Hallelujah, 5 hours later! My team turned out to be great.

Stiff all over, and stairs kill me! Need a bit more upper body strength to be good at this, but cleared all the obstacles.

At first I didn't like the idea about starting first because I knew 8 AM would be cold, given we'd be wet all day, but in hindsight it was better getting to all the obstacles first, especially because it was the first day of a 2-day weekend.

They weren't nearly as greasy for the first groups of participants.

Keith,
Have you any more detail GoRuck Selection? Does this introduces a sleep-deprived fatigue dimension to the gruelling physical demands?

https://www.goruck.com/en/selection <---that's all I know. Basically you will run, ruck, PT, puke and do it all over again for 48hrs. If there is a GoRuck Challenge or Light in your area you could try it and see. The Selection on the other hand is mucho harder...
Good job on the Tough Mudder man, it can be a bit of a challenge, but the satisfaction of crossing that finish line is worth it...
