Not my baby

Just got my first new car 3 weeks ago.....04 WRX Problem is my girlfriend loves the car also and wants to drive it.......its a stardard and she doesn't know how to drive one. What should I do....teach her and risk burning out the clutch or not teach her and have her mad at me?!?

Thats quite a delima. My 'g/f' (really a friend with benefit) has a WRX so I dont have to worry bout that. But just do what I do with people that want to drive my car: three stalls and they are out. And I am sure if she burns the clutch you can get it replaced since it wont wear down in 4 weeks, well it shouldnt if you dont race the car.

i let my g/f learn on my 03 rex...the way i see it is, once that clutch is gone, its an excuse to buy a ACT clutch and lightened flywheel

My WRX was my first stick, and I basically learned on it, give the chick some credit, see how she does, maybe she is a natural and will get it quickly.

Have to agree with the excuse to get a better one. If you really want to be a pain, when you do want a new one ask her for some money since she helped "cause" it. Sometimes its ok to be a weasel.

(Don't actually take any of this as sound advice if you like having a gf)

You should not deny someone the learning experience, I taught my friend how to drive manual, he has driven my car up and down and he became very good at it quickly. But I'm also the kind of person that hands a friend the keys and says "take it out for a bit" I know most are not like that here =)

Little off topic. But you're talking about girlfriends, so I thought I would share this with you.

The girlfriend decided to have the "which is more important, the car or me?" talk on friday. I told her I'm not gonna change my ways, so if you have a problem, then maybe we shouldn't be together. Needless to say, she backed down and we're still together and I still do what I want. HA HA.....i'm not the b###h in the relationship.

Learning a standard isn't really rocket science. Teach her and move on.

I tried to teach my gf on my 04. Got kinda scary at points, but she did ok. However, she hasn't driven since. I think she was more scared of hurting the car than I was.

She says she needs to learn by next year so she can get a Mini cooper S.

If you have easy access to another stick to teach her on, you should probly use it instead. Not for sake of the car but just for technique. Most cars don't need to be revved up 2k past idle just to reach functional RPMs.
But if she specifically wants to drive your rex then let her go for it. A gf who's into cars definately earns bonus points.
