my exhaust is killing me

in the beginning of the year i had goten a 4" dp and had fitment issues cause one of the bolts on the turbo would fit on it cause the dp was blocking it. secondly the cat back i had wasnt mating properly to the dp. i got the doughnut gasket and that helped alot, but i still have an exhaust leak with the EWG sounds. (dont have the dp gasket tho)

im thinking of gutting the entire exhaust, selling it, and buying a new tbe.
idk, im just mad cause my wrx doesnt sound like it should

You really need a dp gasket. What brand do you have? Is this an HKS DP or ebay? You need to get one that tapers to the same size style flange of your catback or get a muffler shop to weld the correct flange on there.

But you are going to leak without that gasket.

the dp to catback part is fine. no leaks there. its just at the top where the dp bolts to the turbo. i dont have a gasket and one bolt doesnt have a nut on it because the dp blocks it.

That's what i meant about leaking without that gasket. I would invest in a different DP if one of the mounting bolts won't fit. Gaskets are designed to prevent leaks, without one........well, you will leak.

I know the nut you're talking about. The bottom middle one right? Pull off the DP and grind the bell until a nut will fit. Won't take very long. Use a bolt and nut to test it before you try to install. Then go to the nearest Subaru dealer and buy the $30 Turbo/DP gasket. Problem solved.

When you install the DP you'll need to thread that nut first and slowly push the DP closer to the turbo as you thread it. Then the DP won't be in the way while your tightening it.

Woops, LOL. Brave to tell us that.

BTW Just installed my DP on my STI. I had to grind mine as well, and it bolted up much better this time then when I had in on my wrx. Sealed nice and easy. I also straight-edged my flange and machined a high spot out of it. You may want to check that too.

ill tell u what it was the dumbest move ever. when i was backing out i was thinking of crap i wanted on my car. backed out a little bit then turned right and BOOM, my whole right side was on the curb and i had the gas going wot...sooo as soon as all 4 were on the ground i bolted out of there as fast as possible shaking my head with one hand on my mouth. im a tard lol

by the way...did you grind the bottom part of the downpipe? cause im gona either have to do that or get mallet of some sort and beat it in so it doesnt protrude so much so i can slip a nut on there. the flange on my dp is fine nice and straight its just a mammoth of a pipe.

My bell is cast iron, so I ground an area for the nut and a wrench to fit. If yours is steel, I'd dent it in enough to clear, it's probably to thin to grind enough. Should be fine if you can bang it hard enough.

I'd think you'd need a metal hammer, I don't think rubber would do it. Maybe a piece of wood with the mallet.
