From what I understand, this is a common problem with the EJ25 block. And usually the #4 or #3 piston. I think it's detonation that does it? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. A proper tune for your setup will help, other than that, forged pistons.
well how i understand things is that number 3 goes sometimes cause its the last to get fuel and its the hottest casue its over there right be the turbo, and number 4 gets the least oil is what i have heard from many tuners. Well now comes the part where you guys are going to call me nuts, stupid, crazy and dumb lol, im going all out on a new engine, im starting with a 2.5 sti block and im going to build a 2.7L engine with a 102mm bore and a 83mm stroke, and im using CP pistons with pro series rods, i sold my race quad and trailer and everything i had in storage pretty much and now im using the money towards this engine and drive train, and once i get out of boot camp and get a house i will really start tearing my car apart, most of you may know that i just put a new hybrid motor in there as well lol, my turbo choice for this car i will decide soon i have a few in mind right now.
thats a question that really cant be answered, it all depends on how bad the piston scuffed up the wall of the cylinder and how much time you have on your hands to work on your project and how busy the machine shop is and how much money you have, there are alot of things to consider.
Taking my time, it's been 3- 5 or 6 hour Saturdays now since I started. I only have only weekends and I've skipped one so far. I estimate a couple more weeks. Ordering parts, and machining is all the waiting game. And I am sure I'll forget to order somwthing. You definately need alternate transportation.
But anyway, VD5, what did you have done to your heads exactly? I asked a while back but my questions got buried.
a complete valve job and ported, the only thing i really regret doing is not getting cams cause of the hybrid set up you need sti cams or something better than what the 2.0 has stock.
Oh, don't say that. I've had so many surprises now and extra costs. Do you really think STI cams are the way to go? Is there a better set of cams to put in if I were to spend that kind of money?
I found supposed "STI" cams on Nasioc. Is this compatable or similar to what I'd want for a cam upgrade?
crower makes pretty good cams they are $650 bucks and the valve spring kit is another $200 so your looking at about grand after you pay for the springs to be installed unless you do them your self or whatever,
That's what I'm doing. It's at the machine shop now and I'm getting forged pistons for it. I want to address all possible issues now though, and if a set of STI cams would really help, I want to run them. I've been seeing STI cams for around $200 on Nasioc and if it is an easy swap then I think I'll go for it. But I'm not sure what years are compatable and what is required to run STI cams for my WRX heads? I've been searching and can't find anything yet. Can I get some insight?
Also VD5, I owe you a coke for stealing your post for my personal advice column. Sorry.
lol dont worry about it man, we are all here looking for help or to give help lol, my car needs all the help i can give her lol, this car is costing me more than all my woman put together lol
i dont understand why you would plug those for at all, arent they blind holes anyways its not like oil is goign to come leaking out of them or something??? unless im really missing something here seems like a waste of time or something lol
