Matching the SWP

4 Attachment(s)
Well, I figured I'd post some pics of the ride after getting it back from the body shop. I gotta give the shop credit for their quality of work, as I went over the paint with a fine tooth comb and not a single fish eye or dust partical was left behind and there's zero orange peel! A+

Now I've read some threads on here and other forums regarding matching the SWP and although mine doesn't look NEARLY as bad as some attempts I've seen, I'm not exactly happy with the end result. I'll give the shop some credit though as they went through a lot to try an match the SWP and actually painted the car twice. The first time it was even whiter. There's zero varience on the white so the only way to inc the SWP look is with the pearl. It's said to do only 3 coats of pearl and there's 8 on mine and its still not a match!

Blending would've been great and helped with contrast but Liberty Mutual refused to pay for it! You believe that?! Like that's not part of ANY professional paint job...nevermind working with SWP. I battled with the adjuster for like 30m about how I felt it was standard procedure yet got nowhere! I'm thinking of calling to file a complaint about that one cause as you can see the car clearly needs it! Now normally I'd expect a shop to blend whether their getting paid for it by the insurance company or not, but when they're getting shorted by the insurance company plus letting me slide on paying my deductible...how can I complain? I would've paid outta pocket for it but I'm ready to close on my first home in a couple weeks and extra cash is just something I have ZERO of at the moment. Question: Can I just have the bumpers and side skirts blended afterwards, or is that something that NEEDED to be done at the same time as paint??

Needless to say, stay away from Liberty Mutaual as the little extra you save with their "Subaru Discount" isn't worth the headaches when you need them!

I feel your pain bro. I've never heard anything good come from liberty mutual. I don't no what u r paying over there but you should certainly give geico a shot at a quote. I pay 110 month for full coverage! Best of luck! Still looking for doors for you!

I pay $148 and that's with home owners insurance included. I know I called like x4 diff places for quotes back in January and Liberty seemed the most legit and reasonably priced. We don't have Geico in MA though...stupid I know! Get to watch the commercials though :/

Why did you need paint work done? Did I miss something?

Yup! Went back to my car after WBM and had a dent going through both doors with cracked paint! FML 👍

If the bumper to fenders lines can't be blended I'm obv not gonna pay outta pocket for painting the whole car this new color and I'll prob end up wrapping the whole car in matte white vinyl. But I know that'll never look perfect either...ESP with the 11'+ bumpers! Def discouraged right now.

I'm hoping someone can tell me if blending can simply be done to the bumpers now without painting everything again. I'll just have the whole side skirt done but not looking to go any further with out of pocket $$ than that and blending the bumpers...if even possible now?.?.

Because of the two hue nature of most our factory paint jobs, I think it is next to impossible to do blending on our cars and have it come out perfect.

My body shop got my rear bumper and JDM hood scoop to look really good when there is no direct sun, but when the sun is out in full force the "undertones" reflect differently than the rest of the car. Most people probably can't see it but it drives me crazy.

I have come to the conclusion that the solution to getting the 'two hue' Subaru paint jobs to look consistent across the whole car is to paint the entire car at the same time.

Usually insurance companies would rather have a shop blend the paint cause its cheaper. I blended pearl white fender and door on a 67 shelby mustang cause another shop screwed it all up. I got it within about a half a shade off if that, depending on the lighting.

As far as blending the side skirts and bumper that should have been done the same time as the rest of the paint job was done. Cause now you would most likely have to reblend into what was already done.

Thanks for the PM and texts Jarred! I'm gonna stop by the shop and talk about applying a couple more coats of pearl. Appreciate the help!

Wish I had the money for that! It's driving me crazy though honestly and I've only had it a day. I just left the paint shop and offered money out of pocket to add more pearl to what's been painted, but they're saying the pearl is clear and isn't going to darken it up much. They also said the white is now a 0 varience on the SWP. so how the hell does it look so different then?! Uugghhhh...my OCD is in overdrive right now lol!

Well I can't say I expected this, but the paint shop just called and said they want it back in a couple weeks after he clears out his shop. He's gonna find a way to make it match he says and also doesn't even want payment for it! he said he just wants to make it right and after seeing the pics I took last night he doesn't wanna leave it like that although it's been a PITA. I'll update this thread ASAP.

IIRC..... if it's not "as before" or "as good as"....you aren't required to pay a damn thing... Maybe it's a state thing.

BTW... That sux
