dude, don't get news from fox. It'll corrupt your brain with their subliminal messages and ruin your objectivity/sense of reality.

I congratulate Lance and all but..

The fact that he preps for only this one race every year vs guys who go around all different types of races in a season means he has quite an advantage over them. Notice he always pulls away in the hilly sections. That is what he trains for. The other racers all need to do hills speed etc. He actually owned them through the whole race this year though.

Still like an American holding the record for French race though!

Uhh... no. Ullrich, Basso, Vinokourov, and many others only ride 1-2 races per year. In fact, this year, everyone was astounded to find out that Ivan Basso rode the Giro d'Italia just before the Tour. They all figured he wouldn't have the legs to ride with Lance in the Tour.

He won because of several things. His VO2 Max is significantly better than other riders, as is his lactic acid threshhold. He has the best team by far in the Tour, with the most advanced training methods. Plus, he's an incredible time trial rider. Good climbing and good time trialing are usually hard to find in the same rider (i.e. Michael Rasmussen and Ivan Basso) but Lance is. Same goes for Ullrich.

These days very few top-level riders ride in more than a handful of races. A lot of the "supporting cast" ride in a lot of races. Hincapie just about won Paris-Roubaix this year. But, riders train for the big race. And, if they ride other races, they ride just to train, not to win them. Gone are the days when riders like Eddy Merckx would ride every race he could and win most all of them...

They ride more than one or two races per year, alot more including some of the classics, but not the grand tours. Id like to see one person win the giro, tour and vuelta in the same year. That would be sick.

Also, some people just look for the hardest event the world has to offer. Lance won it 7X's.

I try to watch at least a little of the Tour every year. This year there was a story about Lance's physical condition, including his bout with cancer. As you mentioned above, almost everything about his body either works faster or is more efficient than us mere mortals. Where it takes the average person at least 30 minutes to clear lactic acid out, Lance is ready to go again after 3-5 minutes. They said that's why he would keep trying to break away. The more the other riders would try to stick with him, the faster he was killing them off.

They did the piece and showed his body much the same way they do Formula 1 tech shows. The dude is like a machine. And the cancer, he beat cancer's @$$ too - no sign of it in his system.

yeah thats been for a while that his body is faster than others. his heart is bigger and his lungs are bigger as well, which alows for his VO2 max to be higher than most.

next year i dont think team CSC is gonna make ivan basso race the giro next year. but to specificaly train for the tour. like lance and ulrich. and hopefully tyler will be back hes a very good contenter for the overall GC if he has good luck which he doesnt have.

the stuff you pic up when you nearly turn pro as a moutain biker.

by the way is there any mtn bikers on the site?
