Smile I might be back...

Well guys, my dad taught me a lesson. He let me buy the Evo, and now I realize theres no way a high schooler can afford it. Well, theres a way but to me i would much rather have a life than working every spare moment to pay for a car. A sick car yes, but i decided the ability to have fun in HS is more impartant and I can own a nice car later.

So, I am either going to buy a 98-2001 2.5RS or a 02-03 WRX

Im leaning towards the RS to save money in the initial purchase and possibly do an STi swap if the money presents itself later because of the lower monthly payments and insurance.

Opinions?

Im kinda excited

If it were me i'd go with the bugeye. In my opinion they look and handle better, and they got some more power. The RS's are nice cars, but im a sucker for factory turbo cars. I think it would cost more anyway to do an sti swap into an RS, but don't quote me.

That is the thing that is kinda bothering me. I wouldn't necesarily swap the entire driveline, probably just the motor and then maybe a little bigger turbo like a 20g. A 2.0l with an 18g would be sweet too though. This would happen in a couple years though.

Still looking at my options at this point.

I like WRXs but I already had one, that is another thing, I am the type of person who doesn't like to back track so to speak.

Eventually I would like to have this car as a track car and have a nice stock DD but thats a ways a way.

You also have to consider insurance... The WRX was in the top 5 most expensive cars to insure a year or so ago.

That is true. One thing I have for that is it will be insured under my dad until I graduate college so either way it will be stupid cheap.

My evo is only $75 a month.

Another option is an Impreza L

basically the same car as the 2.5 but a little cheaper so i would have more money left over.

I'd go with the 99 2.5 rs. Theres a black one near my with the whole sti conversion and FMIC. The thing is sick, plus I just love the look of those cars.

Depending on how much it costs, I would go for the rs. I know you know what you're doing, so an sti swap should only cost as much as the parts (no labor) if you have the right tools. Plus insurance should be mad cheap (especially if it's under your dad's name), yet your car will be faster (in a straight line) and as reliable as a bone stock sti. The gc's are also pretty dang sexy, and MUCH rarer than any ol' usdm wrx. If you do things right, the rs will be SICK.

HAHA! I almost bought a black 99 2.5RS. I loved it ### it was as close to the 22B in styling that the US ever saw, and the 22B is sex on wheels for me. I had all the conversion plans made up in my head, but an 02 REX wagon started calling my name, and I couldnt pass it up. It all worked out though, because my good friend Jon ended up buying the RS and it worked out for the both of us!

Old school RS. You can't beat it on looks. And it's lighter

Garage
If I got promoted to CEO tomorrow, I'd buy a White 2001 RS and swap in a JDM 2.0L with a Nice sized twin scroll and a JDM tranny. Probably put a widebody on the thing as well. Yeah, a guy can dream.

Point is, that car is the best looking sports compact on the road. Also lighter than a WRX

If i swapped it it would be a while from now. I would do all the mechanical work for sure but I fail at wiring and electronics so I would probably send the harness out to garage tuning so It would be plug and play.

I found a couple silver GCs near me that I emailed the owners about.

We will see.

I agree the GCs look much better. My buddy drives an 01 with exhaust and coilovers and a few other things and runs within 1 second of the STIs in autoX here

The only thing I don't like is how much I would have to massage the fenders to fit the tire size I want for AutoX but then again who cares, right? haha.
