How much.....

How much oil do you guys put in your cars when you do an oil change. I know the book says 4.5qts. I've been told by a reputable Subaru mechanic that the cars actually take 5qts. That being said, I've never came up full on the dipstick at 4.5qts. Anyone else feel the same way? Thanks guys!

Ps. 5qts doesn't put you 1" inch above the full on the dipstick.

once you drop the 4.5 in there, start your car and let it run for about 10-15 mins. then drop the other .5 in there and you will be golden

Most times I've checked the oil the level in the front looks a bit low but if I flip the dip stick over its a little above the full.

I don't think the book accounts for what the filter holds, which is prob about a 1/4qt. When I did my OC I put exactly 5qt in and it was perfectly on the full line.

So 4.5-5 quarts is where it's at. I'd probably go with 4.5 and check it. i check my oil religiously anyways.

Wal-Mart has it for like $21 for a four quart jug and then just get one regular quart to filler her up. I also have it at my local advance auto parts store but it's more money than Wal-Mart. And go with the Subaru filter is what I would recommend with what I've been told.
