My favorite auto mag is probably Grassroots Motorsports. It's about real people racing real cars. No trailer queen cover cars that never get driven in that mag. All of the other "tuning" mags have too much of a "glamour" factor for me. D-sport is nice, but it follows the same Import Tuner/Super Street/Nopi style with all the import models. Don't get me wrong, pretty girls are great to look at, but it seems like they're catering to young horny teenagers who are more interested in bikini contests than an engine buildup. That's why I like muscle car magazines, they don't need porn star models to sell their mags, because their audience is made up of true car enthusiasts who are interested in the cars and the tech, not the glitz and glamour and thongs.

The perfect magazine for me would have a lot more SCCA race coverage and backyard buildups. Not so much coverage of cars that are professionally built up for shows and promotional use.

I've read grass-roots on several occasions. It's a great mag, no doubt. My issue is that i rarely see wrx-specif tech articles, etc. Anyone beg to differ? I haven't read enough of them to back this up. I like the mag enough to hope someone tells me i'm wrong.

You have a point there. But overall, I like what they deliver more than the other mags. Hey, for WRX-specific stuff, that's what sites like WRXtuners are for

Grassroots is a great magazine. Probably the most tech-filled magazine I've ever seen. But, most of it is information I would never use because it pertains to track racing. That is something I know I can't afford to get into.

I grabbed an old issue of GRM from a buddy of mine and read through it. I loved the tech detail, even if it's not wrx specific. The racing stuff in fun to read, but like cosmo says, i can'r afford to actually do it :-(

I hope the new subaru specific magazine offers a lot of tech information. I get the DRIVE thing from subaru and, although i do actually read it, I'm not impressed by it.

I like Super street for the JDM end car tunning I think they cover that the best and they can be funny sometimes too. My favorite right now would be Sport Compact Car, they seem to have older people doing the writeing and tunning on the project cars and speak more of the truth when it comes to testing parts. I'm starting to get sick of Import Tuner all they seem to do is cover the models and not enough of the cars, don't get me wrong I love the ladies, my girl friend is a NOPI chic but come on! I do like the power pages it gives you a good idea of what parts will do for your car

Another reason why i like SCC. I can't stand it when I read an article (from other mags) that has the vocabulary, syntax, and humor of a 14 year old. I picked up another issue of GRM and am begining to agree with Ludacris more and more.

Actually, GRM has a good article in the latest issue on the 91-92 Galant VR-4. They go into detail about its history and how it set the trend for the turbo AWD sedan... maybe just a little too early though. America wasn't really ready for the platform back in 91-92.

True, much of the content in GRM is about racing, but there isn't a better mag out there that shows you which cars are good for performance buildups and how they'll perform in real world racing. Most people these days are buying parts that are deemed "race" parts for their cars - and wanting to make their car perform like race cars. They should read up more on how race cars are really built up. The tech in GRM is real tech for real cars that are really being put to the test. I guess I like the mag so much because I'm interested in racing, even though I can't afford to race either
