Escort GT WTF???

Ok, so this guy in a Escort GT pulls up next to me and revs his engine and

JUST KIDDING!

no seriously, he did. I of course didn't race him because that's illegal. And my car's motor was completely cold but that's beside the point. Anyway, my question is was this car? Looked like a late 80s early 90s model or something, similar to a late 80s mustang. Very boxy. Is there a modding community around these things? it seemed far from stock. Do they swap in mustang engines or was the stock motor any good?

I'm not a FORD guy but I was curious. You don't see many rides like that around. It was a rust bucket but looked like it could move to me.

and FYI the guy was quite disappointed at not being able to have at a WRX. I can't blame him

Yes, there is a small modding community behind the Escort GTs, I have heard of people turboing them, but they are few and car between. Chances are it probably wasn't turbo, but it COULD have been. Maybe he just had the standard mods, intake, exhaust, etc...

Hahahaha, you know what the "GT" in Escort GT stands for don't ya? It stands for got tricked. !Laugh!

Nah, all bs aside, there are people modding them, but they're still front wheel drive. So even if he did have any goodies on it, it's still going to be no match for your car.

I raced one at the strip and he pulled a solid 19 second pass.

My car is well, it's like 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag...

guess what... the Mustang SVO 2.3L Turbo Engine can be put into an escort...

I have seen it done. The ford 2.3 is arguably the strongest block ford has ever put into a mustang (besides maybe te Boss 302). There are several SVOs in my area putting down 500WHP...

Not saying it is likely, but I am saying it is possible he had the gear to smoke you.

it didn't sound like a little motor under there to be friggin honest. That's why I though tof a mustang swap. Anyway, It wasn't like the picture shown, more 80s mustang look. Didn't have that escort front end.

Maybe now that I see that pick, I think it was an older car than the one you showed. It was white with patches of dark rust though HA!

I've concluded it was originally a 1987-1988 escort GT. NICE. They redid the nose in 1988 1/2 to look like the pick you showed.

Anyway, stock engine was a 110hp 1.9L CFI engine and a 4-speed. Maybe the 2.3L turbo mustang swap was a possibility?

for what it's worth, i think the escort has a cool "older" rally kinda look to it.. i mean i would never want one, but just saying it kinda has that older rally look, and i like that look.

kinda like this

(my boss just got one of these.. exactly like that, decals everything, it was the actual like 1977 rally winning car or something)

Gregory-
keep it in the dirt.

there isn't much more power he could have swapped in there though as it's a FWD car, correct?

He can put as much HP to the front wheels as he wants.

Yeah. I remember this guy who had a little black EXP when I was like 10 years old. I thought it looked pretty cool then but of course... I was 10 years old.

...it's Jason ...it's not an STi, it's a WRX.
