Hey guys I've been searching this forum while I've been on the hunt for a WRX.
I test drove a handful and ended up on a good OTD price on a 2004 from South Coast Mitsubishi. I bought it on saturday and the motor cut out on me yesterday (memorial day).
I wasn't running hard, just cruising home from the beach in town. The motor and turbo are stock. It started with a consistent 'tick' which turned into a loud 'knock'... lost power steering around a turn while motor died. I ended up limping it into a neighborhood.. not sure if I threw a rod or what...
It's under a 1 month/1000mi warranty from the dealer and I got the Subaru 2 year extended warranty.
It's being towed back to the dealer as we speak.
What do you guys suggest I do?? This blows! All this right after my 2009 r6 got stolen in san diego 2 weeks ago! ughhhh
Unfortunately, that's one of the risks of buying a used WRX... no telling what kind of abuse it was put through by the previous owner(s). Once it's fixed properly though, it should last a while. Good thing it's still under warranty. Keep us updated as to what the problem was and how it was handled by the dealership.

If you had a WRX and you knew the motor was going, you might try to trade it in. The dealer may miss it and you'll get full value without having to fix it. Then they resell it and some poor schmoe gets stuck with it. Looks like that was you. Oh well, at least you have a warranty. Now the extra cost is on the dealer instead of on you.

I'm still in the process of giving them everything so I can get financed! Ideally, I don't give them the rest of my down payment/pay stubs and they HAVE to take it back.
I'm a little lost in the whole process... never been through anything like this.
So... Ideally YES, I would like a different WRX! I just hope they don't screw me over.
It sucks after driving all of them, this one happens to break on me. They seem like a reputable dealer, the place was packed. Hopefully they take care of me..
