2010

I personally find the 2007 the best looking, but for 04 or 05, I'd go with the latter.
I've got a friend that managed to destroy the tranny on his 04, got a new one from some guy that was parting out his car, broke that one, and now it's on blocks in his garage.

I think he's a damned fool for beating his car to hell and back, but I don't know if the tranny-breaking is a trend the 04's have....?

But again... 05 =

Right on! Hawkeyes rule!

I'm actually sort of anxious to see what the 4th generation Impreza/WRX/STi will look like - by then, I'll probably have well over 100,000 miles on my 07 and I'll be ready for a new ride

Tranny breaking in a WRX can be a trend depending on how the person drives and treats the car. People can break them at stock level driving like they have never driven before. Me personally have a 20G strapped to my car making in the 330AWHP range on a stock transmission for over 10,xxx miles now. Your friend just isnt treating his car properly, and that is a shame.

Hell yeah. I just got mine, so I'll be looking at 5th gen

That is, of course, if I don't buy a different car

*very unlikely

That's really all I think there is to it. He drives like he has something to prove, if you know what I mean. But since he's a tool, all he has (had) to show off was the car, which now is broken.

Such a shame.

08 Model

So what happened to the 08 model? I bought an 08 and have had nothing but issues. I hear now that it is kind of a throw back year. Is it worth hanging on to it or ditching it for another year?

My '03 WRX is the limited first-run production model for the '03 MY. It's 'Sonic Yellow' color and only 1500 were produced for US. 150 for Cananda and few hundred for UK under 'Spec R1' badging (identical to US except for wheels).
Don't know if 'BA' tranny was special for this paricular model only since my production date was early OR if it (BA tranny) was used for the entire line of '03 MY production run.
This was hotly debated years back but the basic conclusion is that there are '03's out there with BA and some with AA. All the 02's have AA and all the '04's have BA. What percentage of the '03s have the BA gears I don't think Subaru ever said. I'd speculate 80% had the newer gears.

The sonic yellow is mostly just rare because it was only sold for 1 year. They did only import 1500 here but the whole run probably less than 20k cars. Not trying to rain on your parade, just want to put it in context with other color '03s. Found this release for '02, I think '03 sold less since it was the second year of the model. Something on the order of 5% of all bugeyes are sonic yellow and prob another 5% are the lighter yellow offered in '02.

The whole issue of the tranny is in how you drive it and maintain it. I drove almost a year on my 20G with no issues. The stock clutch was giving out. But I believe that to just be because of normal wear; from driving the hills of Seattle (having to constantly slip the clutch from red light to red light) and merging on the dang interstate. But I seized the opportunity to upgrade mine since Im deployed. I still believe that when they crack open my tranny that the stock gears will be in great condition (and then I can sell them cheap to recoupe some of my costs).

I'm trying to get a 05-07 in the next 10 months if i can find one for a decent price and not a ton of miles. I prefer the 06-07 i really actually liked the bug eyes model neighbor has a 02 and it is in perfect shape he barely drives it looks real clean just rims on it and a lip kit.

Well the 07 has different side skirts, but I prefer the 06 better suspension parts and almost same look... Also the 2011 sedan looks pretty sweet.
