i have an 04, the advantages of the 05 are the painted side skirts. the 04 has a momo steering wheel which i like better than the 05's subaru one. the rims are different. i think 05 has heated seats.

personally, i would save up for an 06. the extra .5 liters of displacement is really nice.

Be nice to STis, but show no mercy to Evos.

STis = our big brothers
Evos = our arch enemies

I had an 04 and then got an 05. The differences that I noticed are as follows, in() are the years that I perfer:
tinted headlights (+05)
painted side skirts (+05)
differnet interior (center console...) (+04)
Auto climate control (Toss up)
different seat material (+05)
different steering wheel (+04)
different rims (Toss up)
Many of these have been mentioned, just though I would say them again.

The 04s had heated seats as well. Mine did, along with a sunroof, heated wiper arms, heated side mirrors, and premium sound (which is still crap imo).. and it's a 10/03 build date. It also has the better trans.

Between the two year models, imo, there's not enough of a difference to make me choose one or the other.. I do like the MOMO steering wheel and pedals of the 04 though

In any case, you'd do well with either.

The heated seats, sunroof, etc. was a premium option. Not all 04's OR 05's have these options.

The late model 04 wrx's have a better tranny (not sure of the "born on dates though").... Other than that.... looks here and there like they have all posted. GET ONE THAT HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED.

It was a late 03 change, all 04's have the wider gears.

I had an 04 (my first wrx) and now have an 07 and I love it.

There isn't much difference in the 04-05 you might find an 04 with everything you need or you might find an 05. There is no difference in the 04 and 05 manual trans gear ratios. You have to decide what you want the car for.
