Anyone here in the Air Force or close to anyone who is?

I'm trying to find some people who are enlisted and work the artistic/creative route in the AF.

I'm looking into their graphic design program and also photography, and maybe photo journalism.
Would like to speak with people that aren't recruiters and have some knowledge around the area's I'm interested in.
Thank you for your time.

I was in the AF for a while, but I do know that unless you get a job like that from a recruiter right away, the chances of you getting into it in basic are super hard as there is almost never any opening's. To get into any form I would highly suggest you bug your recruiter till you get a guaranteed job before you ship out.

Yea I'm worried about being stuck somewhere in a position I don't like for 4 years.

I have a couple physical limitaions so I wouldn't be able to handle some of the more rigorous jobs I used to enjoy like the mechanical stuff, however I'm sure with a bit of training I could pass the basic training and fitness test but I don't want the AF to think I'm fit for just ANY job they put me in...

I was talking to a secretary for the recruiter telling her what I'm interested in doing and she turned around and said Public Affairs sounds perfect for you. haha I'm awful at public speaking and being in front of the camera.

Im not going to lie to you but some guys who have some kind of issues and they go in and get hurt during basic, you can end up in the worst part ever, the 319th TRS, its like a hell hole for people who get hurt in anyway shape or form. Also there is a possibility that you could get discharged over some bull crap excuse I have seen many good guys go out that way. Also basic has changed alot, its 8 weeks now and its way more combat oriented then it ever has been before so you have to take that into account.

I am not trying to scare you at all but I am letting you know as much as possible before you jump in and realize you just signed up for.

So you want to be in the military with a physical limitation? I hate to break it to you, but the military doesn't accept limitations.

DOD is NOT an equal opportunity employer. If you have definate physical issues, you will not be utilized. Welcome to civilian life.

DOD is not an equal opportunity emplyer.

Yea for real, the physical exam to enter the armed forces is pretty rigorous and in depth. If you have any limitations they will know and you will not enter.

If your worried about where you're going to end up, then just join the army. The army will guarantee you a job position in writing on the contract whenever you enlist. It is the only branch of service that guarantee your position, all the others give you a wishlist and then lie to you and put you where they need you to be.

rollin on 17's now and they're dirty

That's odd because the recruiter for the Navy told me to try the AF and when talking to a representative they seemed more acceptable. However they did know that I'm planning on having all the metal work removed from my leg soon.

When I say limitations I mean that i'm probably 75% of what I used to be. I can't run 5 minute miles anymore but I'm sure I could do it in 7-8 min.
Maybe I'll contact the Army again. I know I may not get the exact job but it would be nice having some type of choice, plus I'm already close to getting a degree in that field and hopefully that would count for something.

If you have a degree you will automatically be a SPC (Specialist/E-4 in the army) or you could look into the officer route, more money, but more responisbility and paper work. Plus the degree will help later for your next promotion. Thats why Im stuck at mte grade I am, no civilian education. People will talk crap about one branch to the next. I have friends and family in all the branches, they each have their perks. I have been in the army 8 yrs and I dont regret it at all.

Every branch will guarantee a job... just depends on how badly they want you. I was enlisted Navy before I went to college and my job there was gauranteed. A contract is still a contract, and that is what you are signing when you enlist.

The Air Force is still cutting certain jobs, so a green to blue move is pretty unlikely (although they are still trying to sell blue to green).

What sort of degree? An associate's is pretty much expected after a certain rank for promotion purposes, especially in training jobs. If you are closing in on a bach, then don't enlist, you will just end up kicking yourself... unless you WANT a lower paying, more menial job...
