2013

So I was really wanting to wait and get a 2013 wrx, but the BRZ hype just isnt pulling me in.
I think I would much rather just get a nice used unmodified 2008-2009 WRX, I thought I saw something that stated the 2009 was for some reason better than the 2008(please refresh my memory)
Also I am pulling away from that BRZ because of what it may cost and the fact its a two door.
So I have been looking high and low for a nice used hatchback (repainted of course)

input please guys.....thanks.......................CHEERS!!!

The 2008 has a td04, the 2009 has the vf52 turbo for starters. Probably the biggest difference of all there.

And from all the reading I have done, the BRZ/FRS has always been said to be a coupe/two door. So that should come as no surprise there.

I can relate to that. Even having 2 WRXs doesnt cut it with a 4yr old and a 2yr old. But the wife wont let me get rid of my car. Even tho I only want a Forester FXT, and keep it to stage 2 only, lol.

The BRZ isn't your WRX replacement either. So, its geared at a different market. The 2013 or 2014 WRX might be running a 1.6 Liter turbocharged engine in it anyways. If Subaru wants to make good on their rumors that they want to return to the WRC. And man....If the GT-300 race spec BRZ would be legal on the street. I'd probably trade my STI straight up for it. That car looks bad ass in race spec.

Tell me that race car isn't bad ass? LOL

oh I fully understand what both you guys are saying.
At this point though I have been on the search and what I saw as ugly before, I am now very attracted too.
Pretty sure the 09 has me sold and maybe in a few years an even newer one...price vs power vs dependability.....Think I just may be falling in love( try to per-sway someone from that) lol

Sedan or Hatch ?

The hatches took a LONG time for me to get used to them, now that I have one... I'll never go back to a sedan.

I don't think Subaru will shy away from making a 2.5L STi model for the US. They still participate heavily in the US rally races and WRC legality has never affected the US market before. They can easily make the 1.6L Turbo for Japan where they have access to better gas and leave us with a guzzling 2.5L. Fine with me, more torque the better. Also, Subaru would be the only WRC company that actually sold a turbo motor with the same displacement as their WRC car anyway. Those days might be over for good.

I read several articles already with outlines for the WRX line to move to the 2.0 liter based on the new FA20 being used for the BRZ. Targeting a lighter curb weight, 270 hp, and mileage near 30mpg. I am betting the 2.5 liter are done, at least the current platform. With gas mileage regulations going nowhere but up, a 24mpg compact doesn't make a lot of sense when they can do the same thing with a 2.0 liter much more efficient motor.

I think I will stay away from an STi for now just so I save a few good dollars, which I want to immediately use on new paint
My mind is pretty made up on as to which car I am gonna go with, an 09 hatch. I also didn't like them one bit even a year ago, but man they really grew on me.

If it were me, I'd wait until the 2011 were in my price range. The body lines are much more attractive. But anything will look good in blaze yellow.

Ima wait for the new WRX to come out... Me thinks it's going to be pretty awesome now that they seem to be returning to their roots of performance first, mainstream appeal second.

But yes the 09 is years ahead of the 08 and earlier WRX's... Much stiffer suspension, larger sway bars, bigger turbo are the main differences. A stock 09 WRX feels as fast if not faster than a typical stage II pre 09 WRX just as reference.

I wanna go test drive a few today, really stoked about it too.
One of my main catches though, is the body lines on the sti are just so, oh so sexy but the price jumps so much and the pony gain doesn't impresse me for the dollar.

Which is why you could wait and get a 2011 hatch used. The STI is more than just a hp rating. I'm not living life a quarter mile at a time either. So, I could give two poos about traps speeds out of the box. Its some of the other convenances that really makes the car nice in adverse weather conditions and other situations that leads me to believe the STI is a little more stout at times to handle certain situations better. Granted a WRX will handle it better than most cars given if it doesn't have sh!t ball tires. I'm just tired of hearing people not even give the car a chance or recognize the differences. Maybe some people just don't even care about the differences. I'm one that does. And hell I'd take dual AVCS over single any day. Yes, I wish I had a 3rd gen STI at times to have Dual AVCS.
