Subaru is going to a hatch for the STi because they need a more competitve platform for WRC. With tiny cars like the 206, focus, etc, subaru was falling behind. The hatch is actually supposed to smaller than the present model. It's supposed to be based off a shortened legacy chassis. And subaru will not offer a sedan or coupe version STi because why would they. The STi was never about pleasing the broad market. They'll offer one version and if not everyone likes it, that's fine. The WRX on the other hand may have more options.
As far as the EVO goes, I do like the way it looks. Although it kills me to say it. However, mark my words, that paddle tranny will suck unless it's a complete rip-off of the DSG. Even super car companies have a hard time doing a good sequential gearbox. Ferrari is really the only one to do it right so far. Reviews of the lambos, mercs, etc all say that they have way too many probs.
