Springs Option

I'm wondering about these springs. I am very cheap and I don't want to get a full suspension. I just need a little bit stiffer ride. I can't stand how soft the stock suspension is. Are these even worth it? Thanks in advance!

Look into Swift springs. Any spring will compromise handling and stut longevity though.

RCE blacks might be what your looking for.
Barely any drop as well;)

Can '08 WRX struts handle RCE Blacks?

Historically speaking, Cobb's springs have always been terrible. For GD they were slammer springs.

BLAZE2099 12-27-2012 06:03 PM

Most any spring requires a strut to pair with it.
Always suggested on their web sites, research will show this as well.

But than again the blacks may be one of the few that don't necessarily require the bundle.
If I were to ask anyone about this, it would be you or Mosc Justin.

The Stock 08 WRX springs/struts are probably the softest on any year WRX/STi by a pretty substantial margin. They were gone in 09. No, they won't handle RCE black springs (probably not enough to handle 09 WRX springs even). STi struts really aren't enough for RCE blacks (but will work supposedly). If you really want to improve your suspension, you're going to need to do the struts with the springs. RCE blacks pair best with aftermarket struts like d-specs.

That's what I figured. I know that +'08 WRX struts don't like being lowered at all and they were never very durable to begin with. Many people were having them blow low mileage even on the stock suspension.

I ran the 08 STI Pink springs on stock 08 2.5i struts for 50k miles without any issues. I traded in the car that way... I may have just gotten lucky?

We discuss on here all the time about people driving around with blown struts and not even knowing it. When you get used to horrible ride quality delivered by dropped springs on overtaxed struts, the difference between the strut being "out of spec, not accomplishing the desired damping" and "blown" is pretty minor. You probably traded in the car with blown struts.

I've heard the pinks work well. I was looking into stock STI spings. I know they will be stiffer with no drop but which ones will fit my '08? Any good places to get them?

mosc 02-01-2013 04:08 PM

none of those should be used on stock 08 wrx struts

I've read some reviews on these springs and they have all been good. Most people using this springs with stock struts and have no problems with ride quality. I believe the drop is under an inch.

Pretty sure this is the setup for me as I'm using my '13 daily and probably not going to mod it heavily

Anyone using these springs with 18x8" wheel/tire setup?

mosc 04-01-2013 08:14 AM

Blacks have a mild drop, but they have a very substantial spring rate. Stock 08 struts will be totally non-functional with those springs. Ride quality? That will be the least of your worries.
