I just got new brake rotors and they are already rusting. I cant put the car in the garage at my house and I am wondering why this happens. How can i remove the rust?

Pop the rotors off and sand then down then paint them, make sure you tape off the area that the brake pad touches

Thats why I like to buy rotors coated with a zinc and/or nickel coating. They prevent the rust.

Now if you are talking about rust where the rotor is contacted by the pads it will happen often when it rains overnight or is humid and hot (in my area at least) but the rust comes off with the first press of the brakes. It's just on the surface.

If it's wet out rust on your rotors is totally normal, it will go away the minute you drive again and step on the brakes.

That is if it's on the rotor's surface.

Wow, that's pretty bad. I've seen that on cars from the coast before, not quite that bad though.

Mine looked like that.. I took a wire brush then sand paper to them, masked off the contact area and painted them.. Depending on how good your prep work is and the paint quality this will last a long time..

The orange stuff is mostly surface rust... it happens. You can wirebrush it off and spray it down with high temp engine paint and it should last a while, but a rotor is a disposable part remember.

Seriuosly they look fugly. Try and paint em. IDK is there any risk of the paint staying on the inside of the wheels?

As I said consider buying rotors that are coated for anti-rust next time around. The rotors on mine are beautifully clean and rust free after the Michigan winter (salted roads).
