Looking for some advice for Struts and springs on a 07 WRX

Hey there everyone I have a 2007 WRX and it's due for new struts and springs. I am actually looking to lower the car NO more than 1 inch all around and get a strut that would be a upgrade over OEM. This car may be at a auto x event or two in the near future but its my daily driver. As far as road comfort is concerned I am not in need of a super smooth ride but ill take what I can get there. I am looking for the look of a little lower and the function of a better suspension.

I've been looking at the following
Mach V Springs (04-07 Impreza/WRX) - Springs & Shocks Mach V Springs. I've been told though that lowering in the front more than back is not necessarily a bad thing but to avoid it on the WRX

Swift Springs - Springs & Shocks SWIFT Springs

Eibach Springs Eibach Pro Kit Springs

I currently live in Grand Rapids Michigan and lowering the car more than an inch would be HIGHLY impractical just due to how the roads and drive ways are here...It would be a huge pain in the ass to go any lower than an inch

I've been looking at these struts as well
Koni Yellow Shocks Subaru WRX (2004-2007) Front/Rear Koni Yellow
KYB AGX Adjustable Shocks for WRX - Springs & Shocks KYB AGX adjustable shocks. I've read that "Adjustable" shocks are really not that great and wear quickly however I am really ignorant of any knowledge of this.

Thanks for reading! I am really ignorant of what brands to buy and what to specifically go with. I am looking for something that will increase the handling of my car and that will only lower it a little but just for the look. I do enjoy driving off road a lot of but nothing huge. Just some dirt roads for some screwing around every once in a while. I am okay with keeping the stock height as well. I would love all opinions and such! Thanks!

Sounds like you would do really well with some RCE Blacks and Tokico D-Specs if they're still available anywhere

The stock front height is a bit higher than the rear height, so springs that lower the front a bit more than the rear will cause the car to be 'leveled out' (in most cases).

I rode on KYB AGX adjustable shocks for at least 4 years as a daily driver before switching over to a 5,000 mi/yr usage rate. Even now, I still have the KYB AGXs and they are still performing well with my prodrive blue springs (installed as an assembly).

I bought my KYB AGXs in the latter part of 2005. I say that because I can't accurately recall if I read that they are built by or procured from a different supplier now, or something like that. Maybe someone else can speak on whether my vague memories are true or fabricated.

Hey guys thanks for the replies! I'll look into the D-spec setup to see what they have around. I've read/heard some good thins about D-spec but my ignorance to the subject leaves me a bit off so I am unsure.

Sleepr ah okay I didn't really realize that with my WRX... I've owned the damn thing for a year and a half and actually did not notice that...I've been looking that thing over daily practically to make sure everything is fine..chips, scratches...ect ect. looking from afar not realizing that at all. Hmmm I've traveled quite a bit in the last year and a half with the car probably 35k miles. (It was a year of highway back and forth from Chicago to Grand Rapids Michigan, and a trip to Florida) This with be easier on me though. I'll look into the mix of AGX and Prodrive some more.


Any other opinions?

The D-Specs are pretty much unavailable anymore. Unless someone has a secret stash somewhere that I don't know about, they are basically gone.

The AGX and Koni are the best options that I know of that are currently available. Between the two, the Koni has superior adjustability and ride quality in my opinion. They are a cartridge based shock however, so they do require modification of the stock strut housings. (Which is really way less scary than it sounds).

We carry the Koni Sport shocks regularly, and we can special order the AGX.

Both the Koni and the AGX are great options for this chassis and they pair well with the Eibach Pro-Kit. Since the eibach kit is a mild drop with progressive spring rates the ride quality is really great and you won't loose all of your "off road ability".

I have an in on D-Specs if anyone wants a set. They are much more than what I paid 2 years ago though.

You basically remove the "Guts" from your stock shocks and slide the koni insert into the "Housing".

These Koni Yellow install instructions are weird...

You can re-use your top mounts or use any camber plate or group N mount designed for stock shocks.

It sounds kind of scary to cut into your stock shocks to remove the internals, but the Koni's perform so well that I think it's well worth it.

Considering my car has 160k miles I need to replace the top hats, but what top hats should I get? I am looking at the Whiteline C top hats but they only cover the front of the car it looks like...suggestions? http://www.rallysportdirect.com/2007...-2.5L_Top-Hats

Hey guys I am looking to order these parts today so if anyone has some input on top hats I'd be immensely grateful. If I order the Whiteline C top hats do I only need to do the front? Or do I need to find something else?

You need rears too.

I wouldn't do Koni inserts. They've had some quality issues lately. Some of the shops better known for suspension works on our cars have been warning customers away from them for a few months.

What exactly is the issues that are coming up? If I do the STI top hats would I need the STI koni's?

Thanks for all of the help everyone I've gone ahead and ordered the Koni struts, Yellow RCE springs, Whiteline C front top hats, and Group N STI rear top hats. Thanks for all of the input!
