I am planning on fabbing some brake ducts from the fog light openings, through the fender liners using some aircraft grade ducting. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/ceet.php
I know I have seen this on a forums somewhere. Anybody here done this mod ?? Thanks
Also wondering if anybody has used the $19.00 fog light covers from e-bay, how much air can get through them ? Peace
you will get more than stock thats for sure! even a 3 inch hole (approx) that the 06 fog lights have, if i were to make ducts out of that and drive on the highway at 65mph thats a huge amount of air getting to the brakes!
i have those cheap ebay mesh covers, and have run a tube from my intake to the front right foglight and it gets a decent amount of air but not what you would expect. the only thing i could think of was to drill the holes in the mesh larger which actually worked a bit.
hey so i have a fmic and thus no fog's so does that work fine for brake cooling?
You've got to get the air from the fog openings to the brakes somehow. I'm using aircraft grade high-temp ducting, through the fender liners. I'm waiting on a couple more parts, then I'll do the fab work. I'll post the project when I get it done.
I've accumulated almost everything I need for the duct project. I spotted some RV hose hook-up thinga-ma-bobs that look perfect for inside the fender wells, they're like a short reducer (3" -2") with a 45 degree bend to them. I'll decide if they will work after I get a break in the weather enough to get under the car and plot things out. The fog covers from e-bay restrict airflow big time, so I customized them a little. The CF look is some cheapo vinyl sticker stuff. I though they could keep my honking 4" CF scoop company. The little rods are for my low-budge splitter, which will probably get the vinyl too. I'm still undecided on material for it. Could be masonite, plex, plywood or something. Any suggestions ??
One of our NASA instructors drove in the Speed WC TC series, and his splitter was plywood. Cool, huh ??
I was thinking of doing a cooling kit similar to this one. A different company makes them for the Impreza but the price is about the same ,no reason I couldn't put something together myself for much cheaper.
