Brake pads

Hey guys my brake pads are getting low and I am looking at getting new ones and I was going to replace them myself. Do you guys know of any good brake pads to buy?

I have looked into the installation for my 04 WRX and it doesn't seem to be that difficult. Has anyone done it before and have some tips?

Thanks guys always appreciate your info!!Thumbs Up

Regular street pads or do you track it?

Low dust or dust like crazy?

I like Hawk HPS pads. It's so easy my mom could do it.

+1 on Hawk pads. It's the only brand I've trusted on all my cars after trying many and they've never let me down!

And a set of pads is def something you can do yourself. It's no sweat.

Hawk HPS is you never intend to drive it hard and are more concerned with budget and low dust.

Ferodo DS2500 is you do drive it hard and still want less dust than OE pads produce.

Carbotech XP8 and XP10 if you want a track pad.

It is my DD so of course I go hard with it sometimes but not to crazy.

Awesome I will check out Hawk HPS.

Thanks guys I really appreciate your help!

I also use Hawk HPS. Just note the color of the dust is more of a pinkish red color if you have dark rims. Also, when you go to change them out, don't forget to lube your caliper slide pins.

OP-Also remember with most "track/street" pads, warm-up time is increased. Just a friendly reminder... Had this issue with my HPS+ not TOO long ago. :poorme:

I'll agree with that! Should've thrown that in my response as well. Good catch Paul.

I'll stick to my EBC Reds.... love em

PROImportTuners 06-04-2013 06:46 PM

^I second (or third hahaha) the Hawk recommendation.

I use the HPS on my daily drivers and HP+ for autocross/light track/street.

The HPS don't really need to be warmed up to work well and they are fairly low dust and noise compared to other performance pads. With a good set of blank or slotted rotors The HPS offers a nice clean bite and a noticeable difference compared to stock.

We carry the Hawk pads, and you can read more about them on our site if you wish:

I ran the greens on my RSX-S and was pretty happy. Zero dust which was nice but they didn't last that long. The fact I was tracking and auto crossing mighta had something to do with that lol! Shoulda ran the reds as well.

You are wrong there my friend, the HPS+'s DO in fact need to be warmed if not heated to create the same street friction as an OEM pad.

You don't carry EBC I take it?

PROImportTuners 06-04-2013 07:51 PM

We don't carry EBC normally but we can definitely special order them if requested.

I currently use the HP+ on my dedicated autocross car and they do require a bit of warm up, However the HPS do not require a warm up period.

The HPS is a very street friendly design, I have used these on almost all of my daily drivers for many years.

I wasn't aware that Hawk makes a pad called "HPS+". Maybe you were thinking of the HP+?

My mistake..... HP and HPS.... fat fingered it along the way

School me on the difference between the 2.
