Hi, I have a 05 wrx. I am getting my bonus and would like to spend some money on my suspension. I have read like a mad man about what to get but would like to get the perfect parts for my driving, and my driving conditions.
My wrx is a daily driver, I have rough road conditions,( lots of pot holes and ruts). I have snow where I live about 4 months of the year.
I want more responsive stiffer handling, so i can rip corners better, and have more fun on country roads.
I currently have 18x8, they may be bigger im not sure I payed 200 for wheels and tires so thats why i have them . Not sure what the offset. Nixon n3000 225/40/18. Hard corners and bumps make the outside of my tires rub on the inside of my fender wall. Which i absolutley hate! I am a perfectionist so quality over quantity is a must. I am looking to spend 500 or less on some parts. If new wheels and tires are a must please let me know and ill have to save up and get them first.
Any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated! You guys know your stuff and would love some opinions!
Thanks MIke C.
you really should get new wheels and tires...18's are a little big for what you want to do. Invest in a decent set of wheels and tires and your half way there.A good tire is very important. is your car lowered at all?
Man Show thanks for linking those. Probably the most underrated link is the wheel and tire, which i seemed to skip thinking i knew most of it. I also reread the swaybar section.
boosted09 my car is not lowered.
Are dunlops the sites favorite they seem to be listed everywhere? Are 17s optimal for me?
Another question about swaybars what size would you reccomend for my driving style and road conditions? I also want a quiet car so no clunking or abnormal vibrations. I see alot of people running cobb, or whiteline swaybars with kart boy endlinks. Are there harder or stiffer endlinks?
Bushings sound great! Is it possible for a regular guy to install these, and swaybay/endlinks?
If you get harder endlinks, like metal ones (i.e Cobb or Perrin) you will have more noise. Kartboy or Rallitek would be the best bet. Cobb, Hotchkis, and Whiteline are recommended as the sway bar of choice by my tuner shop. You can get adjustable bars, so you can make them stiffer or softer just by adjusting them.
Ok guys I am going to wait on wheels and tires for the time being i will drive on stocks. On c2bcoolwrx help, and other threads i have deceided to go with swift sport springs. They are a softer spring rate than USDM SPT pinks. So I am hoping they are a little softer and more forgiving ride. I am sightly worried the swift springs will ride harsh on bumpy spokane streets with about an inch less travel, but I guess ill find out. I will get them tomorrow and put them on hopefully the following weekend. I am using stock struts and already posted asking suggestions on replacements when the stock struts fail, hopefully another 35k miles.
I am also on the fence about what size sways, I have done all my homework and am just asking for suggestions. So far I am thinking whiteline 24mm FSB, 22mm RSB. kartboy endlinks. I am unsure wether I should get the front/rear adjustable, or both adjustable, or neither?I am a DD who likes spirited drives so I hope this setup comes out nicely! Goal is a soft COMFORTABLE ride with accurate responsive handling.
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. I would especially like to know thoughts on sway size. Could this be to big for just a DD. I dont want any NVH or as little as possible.
Thanks so much,
Mike C.
I think the "sport" springs are superb. However, if you are going to replace the struts as well, I'd probably go with something less graduated. Like these: RCE Black Springs
Much more accurate and responsive. Way too much for your stock struts though. That may be too much suspension for your comfort as well although they're really not bad.
The factory sways are tiny. Any of the aftermarket sways will be dramatically better. My main advise there is to replace all your endlinks. And if you're concerned about comfort, make sure you get some kartboy endlinks or similar that aren't straight metal (cobb, perrin, etc are straight metal).
Well I had already ordered the swift sports, I'm glad you can say they are superb! I'll post on this thread as soon as I get them on. I plan on getting kartboy endlinks thanks for the suggestions. What do youthink of the size of the sways for comfort?
Thanks,
mike c.
Sway bars do nothing in terms of changing ride comfort... Even added NVH is more because of the endlinks. Even with my huge 25mm front and 22mm rear bars, perrin end links, I notice nothing stiffer or more noisy. The only time I know I have them is going around corners, and that's when you want to notice
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
