Wrap or not?

I'm getting a uppie for my 03 WRX. One of the main reasons for this is to remove the cat,a giant heat source before the turbo. If I wrap my new uppie won't this contain the heat inside the pipe thus sending it to the turbo? Won't this cook the lube out of the turbo. This just seems the opposite of what I want. If anything shouldn't we be putting some cooling fins or a heat sink of some kind on it? I don' know, it just seems bass akward to me. Please clarify this for me.

BTW Happy 500th post to me!!!

All right, where is the distributor cap? I need to find the #1 plug wire to hook up my SUN machine.

This question piqued my interest so I started reading a bit on NASIOC...

Seems like the general consensus is that it helps the turbo spool a bit faster/sooner (because it will "contain the heat inside the pipe thus sending it to the turbo"), and some people even recommend tuning for it (which makes sense in my opinion). I think it is safe to claim that the lube in the turbo is meant to withstand temps much beyond EGT.

Not many posts claiming it should not be done. A few posts warning against the hazards of using old "cloth" style wrap: poor durability, trap for moisture, etc.

Then I ran across this:

How to wrap your header/uppipe - NASIOC

Needless to say, it is a good read!
