is it worth getting a CAI as one of your first mods?

i hear the factory one can be pretty good if properly modified, with a factory replacement k@n air filter. i hear there even good up to 300hp, is this true?

yes, thats true...you dont need to change your intake unless your looking for 400-500hp. If your looking for big gains for the least amount of money, get a new uppipe and a turbo-back exhaust IMHO

you have to have the back end opened up before you should open up the front, theres a turbo so untill the back is free of presure then don't waste the money, buy a boost controler and make a real gain

p.s. my car runs leaner from it, but not enough to hurt anything... i mean it's only a very very small amount... i have an a/f ratio guage so yes i can proove it

I have a Perrin short ram intake. I haven't had any problems with running lean. I have an A/F and EGT gauge, and nothing out of the ordinary has happened. No CEL's either. However, for a first mod, I'd suggest some kind of boost control (provided you also have a boost gauge) and/or a catless up-pipe. Either of those will run you less than $300 (assuming you use an MBC) and will give you noticable power.
