Correct me if i'm wrong, but all of the 06+ 2.5s have AVCS according to that wikipedi link wilks132 dug up. Just the STI Heads with AVCS are slightly different....hmm, i wonder how much different.
There isn't a big difference between the two to bring about any visual inspection problems that I can think of and as said if there is no CEL then you should be good to go.
It depends on how they do emissions testing where you live. Here at cali it's pretty strict. They hook your car's obdii port to a comp and scan your ecu for everything emissions related, then perform a visual inspection. Even if you pass the sniffer you can still fail if something looks aftermarket. I passed with my ej207 by swapping almost everything (including the ecu) back to usdm wrx stock status (except the block itself, of course), and clearing the tgv codes w/ enginuity.
i passed no problems even before th equal length header (noticible loud idle). No CEL, and no other issues, cleared by ECUtek flash, but now the car is even more stelth with EL header.
no, you can't have avcs with a usdm wrx ecu, but you won't need it to drive across town to get your car smogged. also, jdm ecus DO have obdii... but they don't have all the necessary emissions testing crap that you'll need in some (not ALL) states. I've heard of people passing in some states with jdm ecus, but I really doubt you could do it here (in cali).
yeah, that's correct. you're not really "turning it off," though. what'll happen when you plug in the usdm ecu is avcs will just stop working. if you plan on using the jdm ecu, it doesn't matter if you keep avcs connected or not.
