Will an 05 WRX OE catback fit an 04 WRX?

newbie WRX owner here and I need to replace the mid pipe (2nd cat) portion of my 2004 WRX exhaust. Will an 05 OE midpipe exhaust mount up ok to my 04 downpipe?

Yes. The exhaust components are compatible between those years.

The stock exhaust parts starting at the turbo and going all the way back to the tip should be compatible between any 2002-2007 WRX or STi.

Aftermarket exhaust parts can sometimes get a little tricky, but for the most part, they're compatible between those years and models too.

With a slight difference between the 5spd and 4eat from the factory. Both will still bolt up to each other, but (I cant remember which one) one has an extra hangar on it. Its not problem and doesnt get in the way, just an FYI.

^ Good call. I always forget about automatics... I assume they're all 5/6 speeds

That different hanger doesn't apply to the catback, and I assume you were talking about the one on the downpipe. Aftermarket setups omit the hanger on the downpipe whether it's auto/standard. The STi downpipe has a different one than the WRX, also because of the different transmission. I only know this because I have a factory DP as I was kind of hoping to compete in stock class races, although that has kind of gone out the window with the engine build...
