Ok so I have an 05 wrx and I hear this whistle noise when driving, but I cant tell if its coming from the mirrors or somethin else. how can u fix this? Also, Could be under warranty?
Okay. Please forgive me because I am a really nice guy and no harm is meant when I say this, but , You obviously did`nt do a search. If you did , then you would have either: A) Found the problem after reading the other 77 "whistle" threads , or B) posted to one of the other 77 "whistle" threads instead of creating your own.
Hit the search button, then search forums , then type in "whistle"
Come back here if you don`t find your answer!
I used to be a noob too!
mine did it too and all I did was bend them in and fold them back out, I didnt remove any stickers or anything tho. I just figured it was the position and the wind combo but I dont know for sure.

I know exactly what it is.. Your Gusset "mirror base" is worn out. Yes bending it inward will fix the problem for awhile but it will come back. You need to order a new gusset and call it a day. Working at a subaru dealership i know what fails a lot and the gusset is probably the part we are replacing the most. Depending on your warrenty it may be covered under warrenty. how many miles do you have on your ride?

I completely agree, i replace at least 2 of these things a week at our dealership. With no window frames, the only thing holding the air pressure in the car is the windows themselves. The mirror gusset is a huge support structure to the window assembly. if the mirror gets leaned on too hard, or hit with something, it will pull the gussett away from the car. Try this:
With the door closed, roll your window down. Grab the mirror and pull up on it, at the same time, push the triangle behind the mirror (the gussett) towards the car. When you get to the point that it feels like it's going to snap off, stop. Roll up the window and see if the whistle is gone. If so, you need to order a new mirror gusset, because the noise will come back. This is covered under _factory_ warranty, most of the time (as long as there is no sign of physical damage such as scrapes on the mirror, etc). I dunno about extended stuff, check with your warranty company.
