I guess the real question is how much do you want to spend? Otherwise TBE and an intake

And i have heard that people put new intakes in their cars,(Ex... k&n typhoon and short ram) but isnt this a bad mod because it makes your car run to lean(getting to much air) most cars it will add some more Hp, but its bad for the REX, yes or no, this is what ive heard.

TBE stands for turbo back exhaust and engine managment is what controls timeing , boost and other engine peramiters. as for the intake the only ones that will lean out your car is a cold air intake. because of the extra bend befor the maf(mass airflow sensor) it throws it off so the car runs lean.

You wont need an aftermarket intake untill you up grade your turbo.. untill then if you must do something with your intake. get rid of the intake silencer and put in a perrin drop in filter.

Garage
I'm going to change my answer to "wheels" btw. 18" rims with new rubber should be the first performance/apperance/handling mod

why even bother with the intake silencer removal mod. I just put my silencer box back in for the heck of it and it sounds exactly the same as well as feels exactly the same too. It ain't worth the hassel of taking it out. I just put in the perrin filter and it sounds fine. The sound is nothing different. Uppipe and TBE first.. or even 17's would nice.

"throwing" on the cobb AP, or shipping your ECU out for a reflash is what i was referring to, and it's good for better numbers than any part of your exhaust.

You could get the AP, flash to stage one. After you a TBE flash to stage 2 and you're done.

That I'd have to see. Every Cobb map I've seen runs pretty rich. And, without changing your downpipe, boost is severely limited. I'm not saying engine management is a bad idea. Far from it. But, for a first mod, I think the average person would be better off spending their money elsewhere.

How many cobb maps have you seen? Before the release of their Street Tuner, you couldnt' "see" ANY of their maps. Their Street tuner has only been out a month or so. . .

Take a looksee. http://cobbtuning.com/sti/power-s.html This software has all the tools necessary to go to stage 1, then after you get a downpipe, you go to stage 2. The maps are preprogrammed and preloaded onto the accessport.

Stage 1 is good for 16 HP and 33 TQ
Stage 2 is good for 40 hp and 68 TQ.

These numbers are conservative from Cobb, and the numbers they qoute are on 91 octane, 93 yields higher numbers. They don't tune to the ragged edge, they tune for power and reliability.

For the money you won't find a better bang for the buck first mod as EM. Changing the DP on an STi will not gain you 33 TQ, you may get lots of boost creep though. . .

If the car has a wideband 02 sensor, then it should tell you it's running rich w/o the "street tuner"
