yea i understand what your saying thoes slipflanges are kinda cheap.the first thing that came out of my mouth was "im getting thoes welded" well stupid me i thought the header was one pice but what can ya do...........it was only $130 not that big of a loss but i guess you get what you pay four....well im gonna get my dad to weld thoes flanges and then it should be alright for know i guess thanks for your input.......
i would stay with the stock manifolds and port them out, im pretty sure you can kiss your boxer sound good bye as well with those headers, but let us know how it goes with ya and how it sounds
Yeah get them welded up. A few things you should note:
1. At the spot where 4 of the runners merge into 2, there is practically no space to weld the slip flanges on the inside. Be careful... you might leak from there.
2. Make sure all the flanges and holes line up. Use a gasket to see how well they line up.
3. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT wrap or coat the headers unless the coating you get is inside and out. Crucial racing and jet hot will do this for you. Unfortunately, Swain Tech will only coat the outside.
You may not like the sound of equal length, but let's face it... that's what performance sounds like.
also be careful not to burn the header while welding, i've never seen in person, but if the metal is thin, you might want to watch how long you stay in one spot while welding. if it's aluminum, you might have to use a special welder, maybe TIG or stick, idk much about welding, but we have a MIG welder at my house and we weld up exhausts for our cars all the time.
yea im real excited to see what it sounds like......im, ok iff i lose the rumble i gain more power.......and yea i was just looking at the part where there are 4 runners im gonna try to get that as good as posable i might have to "rig" somthing up so they wont leak idk.....i cant wait to see the look on my buddys face when i start the car infront of him.....hes gonna be like wtf....he has a m3 hes a rich mofo i told him i was stock turbo and just got a tune lol.........he wantes to race me in the summer i got somthing 4 him ;]
yea my dads welder you can control the temp.....i welded my dp flang because it was cracked at the weld it looks pritty good....but im gonna have my dad do the header
did you notice that there are no studs for the turbo to mount to the uppipe? that means that you have to run bolts down into the uppipe. I have seen those strip out and create a leak, those flanges are made out of cheap ass metal.

yea i know i paid 130 for it i wasent expecting top quality...lol in the future ill get some name brand header i like the way the perrin one sounds but its really expensive....
Thanks for that but that is knowledge passed down to me when I was in the same boat. I ended up going with the Borla unequal length and they seem awesome. They come coated but coating seems very cheap. I am an industrial painter by trade and I am waiting for the next high heat job I do so I can take a gallon home for my self. As far as flex pipes go I have had bad luck with the first one I had broke next to the header bolt up flange. So I spent some extra money for the Pde flex and it was junk as well. Broke in the same place as the ebay one. I have now been running the Invidia for twice as long and it still looks good and no signs of failure yet.

remember to order a new set of Subaru gaskets. The ones you have will burn fast...
After the install, i'd like to meet up with you and hear if it sound the same as my car
Just keep posting your progress...
Port and Polish the Stock Manifold elbows and get a high flow cross-pipe.
IMO this is the best way to go. Alot of the headers that were made for the 2.0L WRX made more power very high in the rpm range(6k+). Check out GrimmSpeed :: Subaru Racing Parts they do great work.
