LOL. That is a good one. I know you are saying quietest out of all of them but come on. A performace exhaust system is not really going to be quiet. That is the whole thing about the stock system vs. a performance one. With the performance one it will yield better air flow for the exhaust, which by removing this muffling feature the car will be louder. I know I am probably preaching to the choir but you still want a good sound that doesnt sound like a pissed off bumble bee right? More a porsche sound to it huh?

Well, for example, my Genie/JWT exhaust is a soft rumble at idle and when you get on it, it simply sounds like a 996 turbo. It doesn't drone at all, doesn't hurt my ears, doesn't fatigue me. It simply sounds great without being intrusive AND it gives me the HP increase I desired (which is the whole point, IMO). The great sound is a side benefit.

I'm betting a Stromung system would give you that sound (very german). I've heard it's not "the best" for the WRX( it works very well on NA cars), but I'm sure you'll get something out of it.

I have not looked at prices recently, but I'm guessing it will be moderate to highly priced and the make everything from just a muffler to full turbo back systems.

Thanks a bunch. I found it. Its in the mid range of price that I was looking for. I think I might do to up pipe and downpipe and see where that leaves me.

vivid racing also carries the stromung stuff. You may want to check price and shipping cost. They are in AZ.

Shipping would be a better price. But like I said I think an up pipe and downpipe will yield more performance and sound than a muffler or full exhaust system. Dont you?

If you're talking about just doing the up and down pipe, but no new mid pipe or muffler, I think the gains will be very small. Ultimately you move more air until it bottlenecks at the midpipe. I would go the other way. Do a cat-back first. then add on the up and down later. you get the sound and some power vs. negligable power gains w/ the same sound.

Up and down with the center section? I really dont want to replace the muffler though because even Mark at TurboXS says that the muffler dont gain but 2-3 HP so its really not worth the cost. But I the ability for the turbo to spool faster and with lesser pressure is definatly worth it to me. Theoretically it will help the turbo last longer too.

He's right. If you replace the muffler only, you will get only a few horsepower. But to reep the benefits of the better flow from the up and down pipe you have to allow better flow after that. Otherwise the exhaust gas has nowhere to go. you have to look at all the pieces of the exhaust system as one unit. If any piece is too small the whole system suffers.

Understandable. But for right now do you think it would be best to invest in the up and down pipes + the mid pipe and put a different muffler on later or would the factory be sufficent?

the point is that you won't reap the bemefits of the bigger pipes closer to the motor. Yes the stock muffler is insufficient. so is the mid, up and down pipes.
