what to do

OK here is the deal. I have been driving around in my stock 03 wrx since the day she rolled of the showroom floor and now i am ready to start the fun. I have read all the newbie FAQ and i hope i am not asking a question that has already been asked. I want to get my exhaust first. I am going to build a sleeper so i want something with good power but not much louder than stock. I have not decided on turbo back or catback. I got 3k to play with so anybody got any good sug.

Helix UP and DP (500.00)
Stock cat-back (0.00)
Cobb accessport (595.00)
Gauges (around 500.00)
Kartboy Shortshifter kit (150.00)
Lowering springs (200.00)
17" wheels and tires Rota (1050.00)
Swap your trunk to a wingless trunk (free)

Total = $2995.00 Give or take a few dollars.
even better, Total could be near half that if you buy used

with that setup your car will be running mid thirteens and handling so much better!

I say this:
Perrin uppipe: $200
Helix DP: $285
UTEC: $950
Greddy 52 mm Electric boost and EGT gauge in cluster pod: $350
Perrin short shifter: $100
VF22, STi injectors, fuel pump: $1125

And you still have one or two hundred dollars left over to play with.

the only thing that I disagree with above is this....

With the setup I posted anyone or most anyone with basic knowledge of cars can do the install of these items .

with Ibauclaplaya's setup, not just anyone can do that install of turbo etc
And you didn't take into account the cost of having the Utec tuned. That can be pretty expensive.

However, you will be running 12's with the aftermarket turbo setup!

One more thing, just to let you know I have the Perrin UP and the Helix DP and the Kartboy SS with Greddy Boost and EGT gauge setup. I am currently pondering my EM solution. So far the Accessport is looking like it fits my needs best. I ran this setup for awhile with the stock CB and nobody could tell I did anything to my car. Now that I have added the Greddy Evo-2 CB people just naturally assume I have a fast car because of the noise.

Great ideas what is the difference between the Perrin and the Helix pipes?
What springs do you reccomend?
Anotherthing I was thinking about a BOV and i have read all the stories about how they dont really do you any good unless you have a turbo upgrade. I think I want one just because it makes the coolest sound in the world I would like to have it noticable but not really loud. I would appreciate any help.

Helix uppipe has a larger inner diameter than stock and Perrin. It is good for upgraded turbos, but for the stock turbo, the stock inner diameter will create better spool. Now the difference isn't much but if I have a stock turbo, I am going to keep the stock ID of the uppipe.

Tein S or H Tech springs are both nice.

Get the HKS SSQV if you are going to get a BOV.

And if you have a laptop, you can road tune the UTEC and get a nice tune on it, but you should invest in a Wideband A/F gauge.

There is no difference in spool time with any of the different uppipes. The exhaust moves so quickly, that it doesn't matter.

So it is really my preference in choosing up and down pipe.
i.e. Perrin/helix helix/helix

you just contradicted yourself. (VF22 and the Perrin)

the Helix UP/DP is fine.

are you doing the install yourself? if not it'll cost you some $$$ then to get tuned another $400 (for a dyno tune)

here's my setup:
VF30 ($375)
Cobb AP ($555)
Helix UP/DP ($400)
GReddy Evo2 ($549)
STi pink injectors ($400)
Perrin Pulley ($50)
TXS TMIC ($600)
H-Tech springs ($160)
17" Rota Sub-Zeros w/Kumhos & lug nuts ($600)
=$3689 an all the labor was done by myself

oh and a V1 ($400)
$4089

Damn Quack didn't know you had the V1. Yeah I realized I contradicted myself haha, but if I had a stock turbo I'd stay Perrin UP, if I upgraded turbo, I would say Helix UP. Cosmo do you know of any like dyno charts or anything that proves the spool times don't change. I am not arguing w/ you I just am interested becasue I haven't seen any proof that they are the same and the common sense part of it says the Helix would spool slower.

I think i am going to stick with the stock turbo for now it might be next year before i can afford to do much else. I am getting married in october and it is DRAINING all my play money. So ill prob stick to doing exhaust,BOV, springs, struts, front rear swaybar, end links, short shifter, wheels and tires, and a strut brace. So i guess ill go with the perrin up and helix down or maybe helix up and down. I am so confused. I will do some more research and see what i can come up with. I really appreciate the advice i am new to this site and so far it has been a great experience! Anymore advice would be wonderful. I need all the help i can get
thanks again guys!

the way things are sounding here sleeper, seems to me that if you plan on doing these mods mentioned, then I highly suggest getting an valentine 1 or escort 8500 radar detector, that is if you haven't done so yet. I think that is the best investment an wrx owner could ever make..
