there is 2 ways to get into the 12 sec range, the first is to increase horsepower, the second is to do some horsepower mods but focus on launching hard and reliably, good times are all in the first 60 feet. my previous car had the second setup, auto, stall converter, and lower final drive, it did a 1.57 60foot time with a 103mph trap speed, some minor power upgrades were required eg. ecu, exhaust and boost. my current car is a version 6 STI- it is setup the first way, it requires a lot of clutch slip to maintain gearbox integrity but traps at 115.7mph but only does 2.1sec 60 foot times, it is only a 2 litre but is an ej207 with stock sti everything with some 4340 forged conrods, turbo, injectors, intercooler, exhaust, ecu, cold air intake, uprated clutch and more boost. The first car was better to drive, smoother, more economical on fuel and fantastic in the city. if you wanted to do good times with a reliable manual, a dogbox would be a good start, only if you plan to drag race often. a dogbox can be flat throttle shifted and the clutch can be sidestepped at 6000rpm for great launches, although driveshafts can explode. power recipe for subarus go like this- 3' turbo back exhaust, up-pipe, front mount, fuel reg, parrallel fuel rails, walbro 255lph fuel pump, custom tune with boost increase to about 18-20 (ecutek is excellent with this setup). use the best pump gas you can find and you should see 280-300awhp, enough to get into the 12s with an average launch or a strong launch should see low 12s., expect to trap over 108mph, 115mph or more will only be a turbo and injectors away. be warned, power is addictive and can burn a real big hole in the credit card.
have fun, remember, brandnames are less important than the design of the parts, shop smart, you will save a mint.

Next mods in order
===========
- catless Up-pipe
- Cat-back
- AccessPort, Ecutek or other with custom tune..

That will get you somewhere close to 300whp on the stock STi turbo

Like many will say on here.. the stock airbox works just as good as most any aftermarket intake.. if you sell the typhoon intake you could likely buy an uppipe with the money.

From there you could go the following for some big power:
- Clutch upgrade
- TD06-20G or bigger turbo
- Upgraded injectors
- Maybe a FMIC

2002 Blue WRX (USDM 2.5L STi Shortblock)

STi does not need a catless uppipe since they don't have a cat in there stock. Adding a cat-back will give him a turboback seeing he already has a downpipe.

Cut out anything that you dont need from the trunk etc. Anything you can do to reduce even a single pound helps.

just turbo back it and get an access port and that guy is a dumbass for running an MBC so...

it shouldn't be that hard to reach...also the accessport is only a moderate tune...go and get the car pro-tuned on it and you should be set

If your goal is seriously to only run 12's then there is no need to spend all that money.

You could honeslty go down to a track as close to sea level as possible, stay there all night and practive practice practice.... with just a DP you should be able to hit a high 12.
I ran a buddies stock 04' STi in Phoenix and we were pulling very low 13's all night (13.0-13.1)... we were running 100 octane fuel with absolutely NOTHING done to the car aside from good driving.

If yu want power, then upgrade; but STi's are capable or very close to being capable of 12's pretty stock. Im not trying to be an ass here but 13.8 isn't to great IMO, even at 5000 feet. Post up your 60ft and MPH times. Remember (dont take this as a theory either) that every 0.1 off your 60ft time is ~0.2 off your overall ET.

13.8 @ my altitude = 12.8ish at sea level

Seriously, and I'm not being a jerk, learn to drive the car. Learn to pull 1.7 60 foots and how to shift quick and smooth, and you should be there. My first day ever at the track I managed to run a 12.94 with a stage 2 AccessPort. My 2nd day ever, I had switched to a UTEC tune, and could run in the 13s even missing 5th gear I ran a 12.97. There's no reason a well driven run won't be in the 12s.

Well you get the concept of what Im saying...

I don't think that a full second will make that much of a difference, but I knwo for sure with all my cars and going back and forth from Flagstaff (7k+ feet) to Phoenix (1500 feet) that power is VERY noticable.

Very true..the 60' is where the 12 will be earned...all I am saying for Denver's altitude we loss about a second on the 1/4 mile...with STI that I posted he was getting 1.78 and 1.81 60' with some wheel spin...and with my cat I always get 1.8 with a shit load of wheel spin (I know I need better tires ) and that earns me a 13.3 at this altitude...which isn't too shabby.....for a STI to get 12's at sea level I would think all you need is a driver and maybe 100 octane

I've got a good friend with an 05 that just pulled a 12.9 with just a downpipe and the AP/Street Tuner combo. Not too shabby if you ask me. I'm trying to get that (or better) next summer. It's always nice to be able to compete with the guys that spend at least $20K more than you on their rides.

My car is well, it's like 10 lbs of shit in a 5 lb bag...
