vf48 vs big 16g

ok, so i ordered a b16g and my buddy gave me a vf48 for my birthday. which u think i should put in my car? i dont know much about the vf48 and its IHI, non-rebuildable. im trying to break 300whp

DreamEvil 01-07-2009 01:13 AM

hes a good buddy hah

dumdum 01-07-2009 07:06 AM

If the IHI is free use that and send back the 16G.They will be close in power. With that being said, once again, don't get wrapped up in dyno#'s.Your basing a # on a variable foundation.I can dyno my car on one dyno and get "a" then immediately get on another dyno and get "b".Even if they are two of the same type of dynos.Never mind the fact I'm sure you haven't even considered that altitude, barometric pressure, ambient temps, humidity, tune, supporting mods and the car itself all play apart in the final #'s.Some cars want to make power and some don't.

The clear choice is to use the VF turbo on your car, and give me the 16g since you won't be needing it. Glad I could help.

I have a big 16g turbo, and i love it! it spools fast and seems to boost like a champ. Just my .02 cents.......

hahahahahaa, that was actually pretty funny. a lot of people be tellin me that 16g would put out more. i got the 2.0. i cant find much on the vf48 so i resaearched more on the vf43, not many could reach 300whp

vf48's are definitely capable of 300whp with supporting mods and a good tune! But as dumdum mentioned, there are too many variables to dyno figures. But for what it's worth, I've seen a stock 08 STI (vf48) put down 295 whp on a dynapack with only cat-back, intake and tune on 91 ACN fuel. It also put down about 340 ft lbs of torque to the wheels, but I'd expect lower torque figures on your motor due to smaller displacement.

phatmike0704 01-07-2009 04:19 PM

its a big 16g, i read ## last post, my current mods are tbe, cai,up pipe, type rs bov, and tuned. my headers and fuel just came in too. im just gonna mod my injectors since pinks are too much

baller_v24 01-07-2009 05:32 PM

i would keep the b16g and sell the vf48 and with the money you get from the vf48 use it to tune the car.

the b16g is slightly better so y not.

phatmike0704 01-07-2009 07:39 PM

16g it is

Doesn't the VF48 (from '08STi) use the LGT style flange?

So it won't work on the EJ205 w/o modification. So 16G then.

That's what I thought...but, from what dumdum has told me. The 08 STI uses the same TMIC layout as the older models. The 08-09 WRXs...definatly use LGT style turbos.

+1

08+ WRXs are using the LGT layout.
