Or... you could take a look at this month's D-Sport magazine. XS Tuning claims 350+ whp with a VF39. That's right. A 39. We should find out what dyno they are using and use that from now on.
i call b.s. on that one.. no way is a vf39 putting down 350whp even race gas and on the highest reading dyno.. the only way i could see them doing it is with a huge shot of no2.. other wise its just another high hp call soo the mag can look cool.. even if it was a sti i would still call bs just because it doesnt flow anywhere near that much.. a buddy of mine with a sti has a green on it and is putting down 358 on pump.. and a green makes the vf39 look like a peddle wheel.. no trying to put you down or anything cosmo just that the mag is just lieing.. unless as i said they used alot of n02..
hmmm that's kinda wierd, one of the guys here in Portland, Oregon that works at RalliTek. His STI puts down 340whp, so it's somewhat close to 350whp. But he is using short ram intake, TBE, FMIC, and engine management and still the factory vf-39
the vf39 is the stock turbo on the sti.. it is a little better then the wrxs stock turbo.. the thing is the guy is either lieing or isnt running a vf39.. as i said befor a buddy of mine with a sti fmic ect.. is running a fp green which is bigger then a 20g and is putting down 350whp.. and it is about 5 times the size of the vf39.. the vf39 just doesnt flow enuf air to put out that kind of hp.. you could run that turbo at 30psi it still wouldnt make 350whp..
i dont care how agressive of a map he has on his ecu no way he is putting out 350whp.. even on race gas it still isnt possible to get that much out of that turbo.. if the dyno did read 350whp must have a very high reading dyno lol.. iam not trying to disrespect your friend or anything but i have never heard/seen a vf39 put out anywhere near that hp.. the highest i have seen is about 50whp shy of your friend and it was pushed to the max on race gas..
I can believe the vf 39. He got the vf 39 in the back seat and the vf 22 installed . As far what turbo..go 22 port, polished and clipped by deadbolt for under 1g. You get the spool up close to the 34 and the power of the 22. You get the best of both worlds!
Yeah we have a guy in the Toronto Subaru Club with an STi running the VF39 with GT Spec genII headers/upipe, hks downpipe, hks carbon-ti catback, aem cold air intake and Ecutek just dyno tuned as a daily driver at 18.5psi at 302whp.
They were getting some spiking so they brought it back down to 18psi and it runs between 294-298whp consistantly.
I can't see that they would be able to safely pump out another 50whp out of it without possibly some internal work being done.
You could always go and get a used 20G turbo from the DSM guys too for around $400-$600... just a thought
