VF34 or Momentum EJ5-40T

I don't know which turbo to get. Here is a list of my mods. TBE, uppipe, SR intake, TMIC, and Cobb AP. I know the cobb ap has base maps for the vf34 but I plan on getting a protune a few weeks after I install the turbo. I would like to have 300whp and a reliable turbo.

I am going to get a protune a few weeks after I install the turbo. If I get the 40T I was just going to run the vf34 base map until I got the protune. I found a place that will do a protune for $150 1st hour and $80 per hour after.

the EJ5-40T is a much better turbo all around...you need fuel upgrades to run it safely.

Do you have a EJ5-40T. Is there a big difference in power from the VF34.

Hello

TDC tuning can provide you with a accessport map for this turbo.

I switched from the VF 34 to the 40T (the 40T has been on my car for about 6 months now)and there is a HUGE difference between the two...I ran a 13.5 @101mph at 5400 Ft with the VF34 on race gas (105 Oct). I just ran a 13.4 @101mph at the same altitude on 91 Octane. Not only that the 40T provides power a lot faster and harder than the VF 34. Look around the web I have seen deals for the 40T and fuel system stuff.

What would I need to do to get a map from them. I don't want to drive to far I live in Jacksonville, FL.

I found a combo with the EJ5-40T, sti pinks, and a walbro fuel pump for $1299 free shipping.

How much psi could I get out of this turbo before it just blows hot air. Would it help if I had it port & polished.

nick4592 10-01-2005 04:07 PM

well...I have had it up to 24psi (DONT DO THAT- boost controler problem)....and it was still pulling; very scary....I use daily 18psi for 91 octane and 21 psi with 105 octane...

wrx904 10-01-2005 04:24 PM

Thats cool, so do you think I could get away with 20psi on 93 octane.

nick4592 10-01-2005 04:43 PM

oh yeah you should no issues with proper tuning running 20psi on 93 octane.

I'll tell the shop that I am going to get the protuner that I what to get 20psi. Thats amazing, I am at 16.5psi now I can not wait.
What psi is the EJ5-40T efficient up to. I see on www.momentumturbos.com that the flow rate is 580cfm. That is close to a deadbolt 18G, it has a 590cfm.

nick4592 10-01-2005 08:18 PM

Honestly I dont know the Max boost...I can find out though...

wrx904 10-01-2005 11:09 PM

Should I get a new clutch after I install the new turbo.
Should I get a new clutch after I install the new turbo.
You should get a better/stronger than stock clutch with any power upgrade. you are looking at close to if not over 300whp with fuel mods and the EJ5-40T. A bigger intercooler wouldn't hurt but isn't needed right away.
