I have a 04 wrx with the catted uppipe, If i was to replace just the uppipe without replacing the downpipe yet and without a tune would it cause any issues? sorry if theres already a thread asking this I couldnt find one.
I have removed both the up pipe and down pipe. In JDM spec WRX, catalytic converter is only on the down pipe. No real problems except there is more boost spikes. Make sure you connect back the O2 sensor when you remove the cat.
There is a fix using a resistor that keeps the CEL from coming on. Other than that there should be any issues that come to mind. I'll see if I can dig up a link for the fix.
The only issue you could run into is burning out the temp probe but that is an easy fix with a resonator...you don't have to get a tune with just replacing the up-pipe
Removing the cat in the up pipe is more for safety than anything else. That way if the cat decides to go, there whont be chunks going through your turbo. If you change it for a catless one you will be fine.
Yea I had planned on getting a catless one without the probe bung and just using a electrical fix. I just wasnt sure if it would cause and boost creep issues or anything since I would'nt have a tune until I got the downpipe as well.
the only problem it will cause is your turbo will spool slightly faster. Good idea not putting the EGT probe back in, I've seen too many of them take out a turbo
