alright i know and i'm sorry this has been discussed billions of times, but i need help. all the picture diagrams i can find of the up-pipe resistor mod show a 02 wrx. however i have an 04 and i think the position of the resistor install is different. can someone please post pics of a resistor install on a 04/05 wrx??? that would be amazing! I tried putting it where the bung wires go up to the connector. so i unplugged it and put it in each of the two slots. reset the ecu each time and got a CEL everytime.
The resistor is the same between the 02 and 04 WRX's so that fix would work with bypassing the Temp Sensor in the up-pipe....what is the code you are getting?
1/4 or 1/2 watt resistors for the 2.2k ohm resistor

it's the 1/2 watt 2.2kohm resistor. the AP is reading a p0031 code saying heater bank is running hot or cold, can't remember right now. but it doesn't make much sense. and if this doesn't work. would it be possible to hack the tip off the sensor so that its not sticking into the uppipe but still physically there? idk just a thought
P0031 is Front oxygen sensor heater circuit low input . did you plug the oxygen sensor back in?
I think you are trying to put the resistor is the wrong plug. the plug you need to put the resistor in should only have to slots. the O2 sensor has 4 slots.

now i feel like such a retard. so the the sensor is not in the up pipe it's actually in a section of the header? cause there is only one sensor going into the uppipe itself?
yup i'm stupid. for some reason i thought the sensor was in the bottom end of the up-pipe. then i looked at the old one sitting in the corner and realized "NO WAY!!!." It was the wrong one!!!! arrghg. but anyways the AP stopped the ecu from running any sort of CEL when i unplugged it and i put a lock washer along with a shortened bolt into the bung. seems to be fine. i can see exactly when that sensor would break off. it's like 1cm in diameter and i can just imagine that heating up to over 2,000 degrees' and breakin off. not good at all. but then again i could get a bigger turbo
Yah FYI the one in the header is your front O2 and the one in your UP is EGT (factory setup). And you won't be over 2000 degrees, more like 1300-1500 degrees
either way that little thing could have made my life a living hell for a while. but thanks for the info. Another thing i thought whenever i looked at it is how it's between the cat and turbo. so the cat couldn't catch it if it broke off, like others mention. The only good thing the cat can do is absorb some of the exhaust heat? correct? i figured it was before and if it did break off it would go upstream and just get caught in mesh inside the cat.
